James Cleveland Cain, was born on April 7, 1953, in Greensville County, Virginia, to Cleveland ‘Tody’ Cain and Celeste Parham Green. He peacefully departed this world on Saturday, February 24, 2024, at his residence in Emporia, Virginia.
Known affectionately as 'Bob' to family and friends, he embraced the teachings of our Lord Jesus Christ from an early age through baptism. Cherishing moments with loved ones, ‘Bob’ found joy in activities like fishing and hunting, until health challenges shifted his focus to a newfound passion for solving word search puzzles, a hobby he pursued diligently until his last days.
‘Bob’ was far from shy; his vibrant personality, combined with a love for humor and music, made him a natural entertainer. Whether singing, dancing or playing his guitars, he was always the life of the party. His infectious laughter will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of sharing moments in his lively presence.
‘Bob’ is preceded in death by his wife, Irene Cain; parents Cleveland Cain and Celeste Parham Green; brother, Nathaniel ‘Popcorn’ Cain; sister, Cleo ‘Puddin’ Adams; son-in-law, Shawn Garfield, Sr., and devoted niece, Sandra Powell.
‘Bob’ is survived by his three children, Celestine Garfield of Portsmouth, Virginia, Yosheda ‘Turkey’ Valentine-Robinson of Richmond, Virginia and Kenneth Tarzwell of Emporia, Virginia. He leaves a legacy through eight grandchildren, Shawn Garfield, Jr., and Deshawn Garfield of Portsmouth, Virginia, Kamal Williams, Kyla Jamison, Makayla Valentine, and Ariyanna Robinson all of Richmond, Virginia, Vladimir Clark and Dean Tarzwell both of Emporia, Virginia.
His memory lives on through his brothers, Charles Cain of Emporia, Virginia and Louis (Betty) Cain of Richmond, Virginia, as well as a devoted niece, Toni Cain and great-niece, Cherelle Cain, both of Emporia, Virginia. Additionally, he is survived by a multitude of nieces, nephews, cousins and a vast network of cherished family and friends.
We extend our heartfelt appreciation to all, recognizing that it's impossible to name everyone. Your love and support are not forgotten. Thank you, and may you all be embraced with love.
