Irene Young Obituary
Irene Georgia Young was born in Greensville County, VA on November 12, 1929, to the parents of the late George and Anna Lee.
She joined the Rocky Mount Baptist Church at an early age and attended faithfully up to May 13, 2018. She loved attending her church and singing a song during service. Even though her health and voice were not as strong as previously, she sang a song on the last Church service she attended, which was Mother's Day, May 13.
Irene was married to the late Lee Wesley Young for over 47 years. From this union, four Children were born, Ernest Leroy (deceased); James R., Mary, and Julia.
During her working years, Irene was employed with Marie's Beauty Salon, and Lois' Hair Salon and retired in 2001, after over 30 years of working.
Our Mother was the best Mom anyone could ask for. She was very loving, kind, considerate, patient, hardworking, and uplifting. She loved her family and it showed in her everyday living. She adored her grandchildren, nieces, nephews, brothers, sisters, all relatives and friends. She was truly a God living woman and loved the Lord with all her heart.
Irene leaves to cherish her memories, her Son, James R. Young (Lucy), two daughters: Mary Y. Phipps, and Julia Young Haralson; daughter-in-law: Vivian Young; Five Grandchildren: Jeffrey Young, Shafnee Cannon (Leon), Ernest L. Young, Jr., Akilah Rowell (Viance), Bernard Cain; eleven Great Grandchildren: Marcus, Tamara, and Tia Young; C'era Harris, Javyn and Javaya Rowell; Shamal, Marquise, Marquell, Mechaya, Michael, and Myonna; one living Sister:Willie Bea Rawlings (Calvin); three living brothers: Russell Lee (Helen), William Lee, and Otis Lee (Bonnie); three living Sister-in-laws: Alice Sykes, Jestine Young, and Ida Mills, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
We are thankful for the life our Mother lived and we thank all the family, friends, and caregivers for taking the time to come see such a special woman. We give special thanks to her long term caregivers - Santria Chatmon, Mary Pitt, and Obella Green. There's a special thanks going out to the very special family members who consistently visited Mom during her years of illness, especially her brother, Russell. God bless all of you and your family.
