Moses J. Mangrum, II

For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand.

On Thursday, June 6, 1940, the life journey of Moses Junious Mangrum, II began in Greensville County, more specifically Emporia, Virginia.  He was born to the parentage and capable hands of the late Moses, Sr. and Roxie Mangrum. Being reared in the Mangrum residence, Moses embarked on an educational journey through the Greensville County School System. His upbringing allowed him to further his studies at Norfolk State University, Norfolk, Virginia. 

Growing up in Greensville County, Moses was introduced to Christ at an early age and joined the Little Shiloh Baptist Church, Emporia, Virginia. It was there that his love for God was deepened and spiritual gifts nurtured. His commitment to God and the church was heartfelt and one that would allow him to serve in various capacities of the church, namely the custodial and usher ministries.

As life progressed, “Bro” as he was affectionately called, joined the workforce and for many years was a bus driver for Trailways. He loved his job and often traveled all over the United States, transporting many people to their various destinations, until his retirement. Shortly thereafter, he worked several other jobs until he started his own barbecue business that he enjoyed very much.  

Moses lived a very quiet yet impactful life, that touched the lives of so many people. Additionally, he had a great love and passion for fashion and football - he was also looked upon as a sharp dresser. 

On Wednesday, January 15, 2020; while in the care of Accordius Health, Emporia, Virginia, our beloved Moses Junious Mangrum, II transitioned from labour to reward.  His seeds are well-sown; his service on earth is complete, and he now experiences the victory and triumph of eternal life. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Richard Mangrum, Roy Lee Mangrum, Julia Williams and Harold Mangrum. 

Though the clouds may hang over, there will be a brighter day, in that land that they call heaven, God shall wipe all tears away. We who remain with faith and assurance that God will see us through are:  his wife, Edith Mangrum of the home; his daughter, Bonnie Mangrum; sons, Moses J. Mangrum, III and Demetrius Carter; children-at-heart, LaTonya Hall and Kenneth Chambliss, Sr.; eight grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; sister, Alice Davis; aunt, Cherry Anderson; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
