Superintendent James R. Obie, Sr., peacefully slipped into and eternal slumber on Tuesday, June 11, 2019, while in the comfort of his home.
Superintendent Obie, began his journey through life on Monday, December 28, 1942 in Emporia, Virginia. He was born to the parentage of the late Haywood Obey, Sr. and Pauline Powell Obey.
For many years, he was employed with Georgia Pacific. He served as the Pastor of White Chapel Church Of God In Christ, Emporia, Virginia. He was Superintendent of the Southern District.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two siblings, Ella Kee and Walter Obey.
Treasured memories of his divine teachings, love and affection will forever remain in the hearts of: his loving and devoted wife, First Lady, Wanda Mae Johnson-Obie of the home, two sons, James R. Obie, Jr. (April) of Jacksonville, North Carolina and Joseph L. Obie (Marquitta) of Columbus, Georgia; four children-at-heart, Tanesha Johnson of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, Alicia Johnson of Chesterfield, Virginia, Teshiera Johnson of Dinwiddie, Virginia and Altonio Johnson of Charlotte, North Carolina; grandchildren, Jasmine, Obie, Altonio Obie, Iyanna Obie and Saniyah Johnson; his siblings, Guy Obie of Waterburg, Conneticutt, Martha Long (Richard) of Brooklyn, New York; Onie Dominque of Bronx, New York, Haywood Obey, Jr. (Diane) of Dover, Delaware, Emma Lundy and Mary Jones both of Emporia, Virginia; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, fellow clergymen, church members and friends.
