The Life & Legacy of Addie Pearl Smith Parker

Mom…

Your life was a blessing

Your memory a treasure

You’re loved beyond words

And missed beyond measure...

Today, we pause to pay homage to the memory of Addie Pearl Smith Parker, who was a loving mother and grandmother. She was one who loved her family with all her heart and not only nurtured her family, but enriched the lives of many.

Addie began her journey through life on February 7, 1937 in Skippers, Virginia. She was one of two children born to the parentage of the late Atlas and Lucy Jane Wright Smith.

Addie Pearl received her education in the Greensville County School System, graduating from E.W. Wyatt High School, Class of 1954. Shortly after graduating, in 1955, she united in Holy Matrimony to James Louis Parker. This union was blessed with the birth of two beautiful daughters - Belinda and Sharon.

Not long after marriage, Addie made one of the best decisions she could ever make - which was to confess the Lord Jesus Christ as head of her life and join the ministry of the Gaston Baptist Church - Gaston, North Carolina. While on her spiritual journey, Addie moved her church membership to the Baltimore Baptist Church, Emporia, Virginia. It was there that her spiritual gifts were developed and love for God deepened. A life devoted to God and ministry was her personal calling and purpose! You could find Addie singing in the choir and participating in church activities of Baltimore Baptist, for over 30 years.

Who can find a virtuous woman? She is worth far more than rubies” (Proverbs 31:10). Addie’s qualities of hard work, fear of God, respect she had for her husband, foresight, care for others and love for hear daughters all led her to a life of enjoyment, honor and worth. Yes, she was the epitome of “A Virtuous Woman”.

Addie loved unconditionally. Her love was not limited to just family and church, but it was shared throughout the community and workforce. She enjoyed being apart of many clubs and groups such as: Elks Lodge, Household of Ruth, Virginia Cooperative Extension, Homemakers and 4-H of Virginia. Addie was also employed at the Virginia Dye Finishing Cooperation for years and later worked at the Greensville HomeCare Health for many years. During her down time she took pleasure in cooking, crafts and sewing.

On Monday, August 5, 2019, with her family by her side, Addie peacefully slipped into an eternal slumber while at Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital, Virginia Beach, Virginia. She has been reunited with her parents, husband and sister, Lilla Smith, who all preceded her in death.

We, who are bound by treasured ties of love and affection as we pass her to God’s Keeping, are: her daughters, Sharon Parker and Belinda Parker Jones (Mitchell) both of Emporia, Virginia; grandchildren, Alani Brown of Petersburg, Virginia, Camille Jones and Roshean Parker both of Emporia, Virginia; friends-at-heart, Odell Pearson of Henrico, Virginia, Lizze James of Skippers, Virginia and Rita Karenton of Emporia, Virginia; special cousins, Percy and Catherine Carter both of Virginia Beach, Virginia; a host of relatives, friends and church family.
