Alice Eloise James Reavis was the oldest daughter of the late Louise Lillian Vaughan and Sheridan Reed James. She was born in Brunswick County, VA on May 20, 1922. She was fondly known to most as Eloise. She was educated at St. Paul's Normal School, later named St. Paul's College. St Paul was the only source of education for Blacks during that time. She was proud in saying, "I graduated from St. Paul three times". (lower school, high school and college) She joined the Poplar Mount Baptist Church at an early age where she remained a faithful member. She was married to the late William Irving Reavis, Sr.; to this union three children were born, William, Jr. (deceased), Charles (deceased) and Deborah. Her youngest sister, Aurelia preceded her in death. She was reared by her uncle and aunt, Charles and Kate Vaughan, who preceded her in death. She was an elementary school teacher for more than 30 years in the Greensville County School System. She loved teaching and working with children.
