Alma Allen Obituary

Remembering Alma...

Alma Alston Allen, daughter of the Robert Alston and Pecolia Robinson Alston Watts, was born on Saturday, March 1, 1947 in Long Island, New York. At a very young age, her family relocated to Skippers, Virginia. Alma was educated in Greensville County, Virginia, during the time when schools were still segregated.

Alma was a quite and private person, who loved a good laugh. She was a hard worker and was dedicated to her family, especially her children. The last few years of her life were spent in Richmond, Virginia, where she enjoyed time with her sisters and other family.

Early in life, Alma accepted Christ as her Lord and savior and became a member of the Diamond Grove Baptist Church, Skippers, Virginia.

Don’t grieve for me, for now I’m free, I’m following the path God laid for me. I took his hand when I heard his call, I turned my back and left it all. I could not stay another day, To laugh, to love, to work, to play. Tasks left undone must stay that way, I’ve found that peace at the close of the day. If my parting has left a void, Then fill it with remembered joy. A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss, Ah yes, these things I too will miss. Be not burdened with times of sorrow, I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow. My Life’s been full, I savoured much, Good friends, good times, a loved one’s touch, Perhaps my time seemed all too brief, Don’t lengthen it now with undue grief. Lift up your heart and share with me, God wanted me now, He set me free - On Sunday, December 13, 2020, while in the care of VCU MCV Hospital, Richmond, Virginia, God lifted our beloved Alma from this world of sin, sorrow and pain, to a place of peace and sweet eternal rest. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by: her huband, Roosevelt Allen Sr.; sister, Helen Lee and brothers, Roger Alston, Russell Alston, Robert Alston and Charlie Watts.

May the winds of heaven blow softly and whisper in your ear, how much we love and miss you and wish that you were here. We who remain that continue to whisper to heaven words of love and remembrance as we pass her to God’s keeping and care are: daughter, Pauline Allen; son, Roosevelt Allen, Jr.; grandchildren, Maurice Allen, Sr., Tyrisha Allen and Demitrice Allen; great-grandchildren: Talysse Matthews, Deron Lara, Maurice Allen, Jr. and Dymier Lara; two sisters, Alberta Alston and Rebecca Green; a host of other relatives and friends.
