ARTO D. JONES was born on May 5, 1922, in Emporia, Virginia to the late Timothy and Lula Robinson. To this union ten children were born. Arto was the last of the ten children and all of her siblings preceded her in death. She departed this life on Wednesday, September 2, 2015 peacefully at her residence. Arto attended Greensville County Public Schools and joined Diamond Grove Baptist Church at an early age. In 1939 she married her high school sweetheart Everett Jones, after which they relocated to Philadelphia, PA., to this union three children were born, once preceded her in death; Elvyn Dube. Her husband Everett Jones and one granddaughter, Della Rivers also preceded her in death. Arto attended the Nursing Program in Philadelphia and received her LPN. Soon after receiving her certification she was employed at Philadelphia General Hospital where she worked until her retirement. Arto was a lover of life and family. Her doors were always open to family and friends who needed somewhere to stay. She was an active member of the Order of Eastern Star in Philadelphia. After retirement the family moved to Cape May County, New Jersey and Arto found a new church home in New Jersey and attended regularly. She served on the hospitality committee and enjoyed cooking delicious entrees and serving them at church. Arto was a world traveler. She traveled to China, Africa and Italy. She also cruised regularly to the points of the world. Arto leaves to cherish her memories two daughters; Carolyn Newsome of the home and Castee Jones, Emporia, VA; two granddaughters, six grandsons; one sister-in-law, Harriett Robinson of Glen Burnie, MD; one son-in-law, Alfred Dube of Batswana, South Africa; and a host of other relatives ranging from great grandchildren to great great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; and her nurse; Bridgette Edwards.
