Their Wings Were Ready, But Our Hearts Were Not… 

Don’t think of them as gone, their journey’s just begun, life holds so many facets this earth is only one. Just think of them as resting from the sorrows and the tears, in a place of warmth and comfort where there are no days and years. Think how they must be wishing that we could know today how nothing but our sadness can really pass away. And think of them as living in the hearts of those they touched…for nothing loved is ever lost and they were loved so very much.

     On April 17, 2008 and December 22, 2009 the earth was blessed with the presence of two beautiful and strong souls - Saraia Monae Squire and Azaraia Ladaisha Williams. Both were born in Franklin, Virginia to the loving arms and capable hands of Shaketa Squire and Anthony Williams. These lovely young ladies were great kids who embraced, embodied and displayed the words of Apostle Paul in Ephesians 6:1, “Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right. Honour thy father and mother; which is the first commandment with promise” - as they were very obedient to their mother and father. Born with a plan and purpose, Saraia and Azaraia were noble daughters after their mother’s heart.

     As life progressed, they developed a bond that was inseparable to each other. This bond was one that had purpose and true meaning - they were sisters and keepers of each other. Saraia and Azaraia loved life and having a good time, most notably they loved laughing at the jokes their father would tell them. They also took great pleasure in spending quality time with their great-grandparents (Shirley & Ernest Squire). While together, they would also help them do anything that was needed around the house. Additionally, the girls also loved being with their grandma, Francine Lewis. When their mom was at work, they would enjoy talking and venting to their grandma about any and everything. Enjoying the company of family was one of their favorite things to do, but so was going to the beach, creating and posting TikTok videos. They loved to dance and sing. These sisters meant business and were protectors of the family, if anyone had a problem or looked like they had a problem with their mom or sister then they had a problem with them. So much so, that their personalities have many similarities and differences. Saraia and Azaraia both were strong, pretty, loved, adventurous, intelligent, skillful, beautiful and gifted. These similarities empowered them to have a mind of their own and unique differences.

Saraia Monae Squire

 “We imagine you dancing, skipping among the clouds; Happily singing with the angels looking down upon the crowds. We imagine you laughing, your heart longingly set free.”

     Little Angel Saraia the eldest of her siblings, grew and matured into a sweet and loving young lady. She was strong, gentle, ambitious, optimistic, energetic and had a great fashion sense. She was a beautiful person both internally and externally, who had an unconditional love for her family and friends. Her qualities and characteristics made her unique. She was often referred to as a ‘little momma’ as she was second in command and when her mom was not in sight, she would put her sisters back in place if they got out of line. She protected them and would defend her sisters if anyone tried to harm them - what a great “big sister”. She would often surprise her mom with a picture on the wall that was moved around during her chore and cleaning up the house. This beautiful queen would hug and kiss her mom during stressful and overwhelming times. She was quiet yet full of life and love. Saraia used the liberal arts to express herself - as an artist and dancer. Her passion for the liberal arts propelled her into the liturgical dance ministry.

Azaraia Ladaisha Williams

 “I Sing Because I’m happy, I Sing Because I’m free, His eye is on the sparrow And I know he watches me.”

     Little Princess Azaraia Ladaisha Williams was a singer and poet at heart. Her ability to sing was angelic and melodious, which was accompanied by an infectious smile that could easily brighten anyone’s day. She matured into a sweet and compassionate young lady who hated to see anyone being mistreated. She was the voice of reason and peacemaker for everyone. Azaraia also had a true love for God, she was a prayer warrior and knew how to pray - a true saint in a little girl’s body. Her love also extended to her mother, as Azaraia always had a surprise for her - be it a piece of candy, cleaning up the entire house, massaging her after a work day or attempting to cook her breakfast; all of these acts of love were heartfelt.

     Wings...Are carved surfaces that lift…Wings enable you to soar beyond all your self-imposed restrictions and take you to the lofty heights you dare to dream of. Wings can offer protection and comfort, as in “under one’s wing.” Wings remind us of the angels that guard and guide us from above, and of those angels that walk among us. Wings remind us that it is in our power to be an angel to the next person, who may just happen to need one. Anything is possible, when you have wings. On July 23, 2020, Azaraia Ladaisha Williams, received her wings and flew away to a place of peace and rest and on July 25, 2020, Saraia Monae Squire, received her wings and joined her sister in the sky - their journey is complete and now they experience the joy and triumph of sweet eternal rest. “Sad is the parting, no one can tell: So sudden on earth the sorrow fell. The blow was hard, the shock severe; To part with those we love so dear. Dearer still, as days depart; Our loved ones’ memory, will forever live within our hearts!” They are now reunited with their great grandfather, Lee Lewis, Sr.

     You never said I’m leaving, you never said goodbye. You were gone before we knew it and only God knows why. A million times we needed you, A million times we’ve cried. If love alone could have saved you, you never would have died. In life we loved you dearly. In death we love you still. In our hearts we hold a place that only you can fill. It broke our heart to lose you, But you didn’t go alone, As part of us went with you, The day God took you home. We who remain to treasure their love and cherish their memories are their: mother, Shaketa Squire; father, Anthony Williams; siblings, Leona Squire and Antonia Williams; grandparents, Francine Lewis, Floyd Parker, Bridgette Parker, Lenora Williams and Alvin Powell; great grandparents, Shirley and Ernest Squire; aunts and uncles, Lee Lewis, Jr., Charles Squire, Desmond Lewis, Jessica Lewis, Sateria Adams, Orlando Powell and Rendell Moody; great aunts and uncles, Shelia Squire, Charlene Moody, Ernest Squire, Anthony Squire, Earl Squire, Frankie Squire, Alvina Matthews, Veronica Squire, Janice Roberts, Brenda Squire and Junie Williams; a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.

Memories are treasures no one can steal

Death is the heartache nothing can heal

Some may forget you now that you are gone

But we shall remember you no matter how long
