Bennie Avents Obituary

“Remembering you is easy, we do it everyday

Missing you is a heartache, which will never go away.”

On Sunday, July 15, 1932, in Greensville County, Virginia, God blessed James and Lillian Avent with a son to love, nurture and adore. These loving parents went on to name their exuberant blessing, Bennie L. Avents.

Bennie, as he was fondly called by his family and friends, was educated in the Greensville County Public School System. He also learned very early in life, the value of hard work. Throughout his teen years, he was employed with Sash and Door Lumber Company. Later in life he worked as a cook at various locations. Seeing the need to continue to provide for himself and his family, Bennie became an entrepreneur by starting his own store on Greensville Hill for years.

As life progressed, Bennie decided to relocate to New York, he resided there for forty years. In search of better opportunities he became gainfully employed with West Chemical. After working there for many years, he retired and embraced his entrepreneurial spirit again until his return to Virginia in 2004.

Bennie was very passionate about his hobbies and took pride in cooking, landscaping his lawn and attending his vegetable garden. Not only did he have a love for his hobbies, but also for his family, he loved and embraced his wife, Frances. Bennie loved her and they shared a life together for 43 years despite their distance.

"When peace like a river, attendeth my way, When sorrows like sea billows roll, Whatever my lot, thou hast taught me to say, It is well, it is well with my soul.” On Wednesday, October 28, 2020, while in the serenity of his home, Bennie Avents entered into eternal rest. He is now reunited with those who preceded him in death.

"Sunset and evening star, And one clear call for me! And may there be no moaning of the bar, When I put out to sea, But such a tide as moving seems asleep, Too full for sound and foam, When that which drew from out the boundless deep, Turns again home. Twilight and evening bell, And after that the dark! And may there be no sadness of farewell, When I embark; For tho’ from out our bourne of Time and Place The flood may bear me far, I hope to see my Pilot face to face When I have crost the bar." Bennie’s life and legacy will forever live on in the hearts and minds of: his loving and devoted wife, Frances Bennett Avents; son-at-heart, Dennis; grandchildren-at-heart, Krystal, Kristina and Dennette; great-grandson-at-heart, Kenyon; a village of children, who affectionately called him ‘BB’; a host of nieces, nephews, brothers, sisters-in-law, and a daughter-in-law, relatives and friends.
