Obituary

Today we pause to pay tribute to the life, love and memory of Bettie Ann Hayes, who was a loving daughter, sister, aunt, niece, cousin and friend.

Bettie began her journey through life on Friday, January 27, 1989 in Plainfield, New Jersey. She was born to the parentage of Alphonso Henry and Surretta Hayes. Bettie graduated from Penn Foster High School and had an amazing passion for working with and caring for children.

For over eighteen years, Bettie resided in Pennsylvania, with her adopted mother, Lasonya Dowling and her brothers, Lacione, Tanasa, Kesana and Talib.

On Monday, July 10, 2023 at 8:49 p.m., while in the serenity of her home in Petersburg, Virginia, Bettie gained her wings, after a courageous, three year battle with lymphoma. She was preceded in death by: her grandmother, Bettie Ann Campbell (2001), her mother, Surretta Hayes (2019) and her little brother, Leroy Hayes (2020).

“Those we love remain with us, for love itself lives on, and cherished memories never fade because a loved one’s gone. Those we love can never be more than a thought apart. For as long as there is memory, Bettie will live on in our hearts. A gift for such a little while, the loss just seems so wrong. She should not have left before us, It’s with loved ones where she belongs.” Treasured memories of pure love and affection will forever remain with: her sisters, brothers, nieces, nephews, adopted family; aunt, Louise Hayes; uncles, James and Eddie Hayes; cousins and friends, who love her dearly and miss her so very much.
