Beverly 'Bev/Bell' Roberts Obituary

Beverly (Bev/Bell) Joyce Roberts was born on February 27, 1952, to the late Howard and Mary Roberts of Greensville County, Virginia. She graduated from Greensville County High School, Emporia, Virginia, in 1970, and continued her education at Norfolk State University, Norfolk, Virginia, where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in History. Beverly later moved to Washington, D.C., where she began her career at the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) in Bethesda, Maryland. Beverly was committed, and her work ethic shone brightly to colleagues. Her dedication was quickly recognized by superiors, as she was promoted continuously throughout her career. Beverly retired from government after more than 30 years of federal service.

Beverly also enjoyed singing, and during her formative years sang in the choir at Diamond Grove Baptist Church, Skippers, Virginia. Later, becoming a member of the First Baptist Church of Glenarden Worship Center, Upper Marlboro, Maryland, and joining the church choir.

Beverly was well-known for caring and nurturing children—her own, as well as others—to help them realize their capacity for excellence. She volunteered with the Children’s Ministry at her church. Also ensuring that every child who entered her home and heart was well cared for. In fact, many of those children fondly consider Beverly to be their surrogate mother and affectionately call her “Mom” to this day. However, mostly, Beverly loved spending time with her family—family meant everything. She was an awesome mother and grandmother.

Indeed, Beverly’s greatest joy came from her two beautiful children, Erick, and Brittany, who blessed her with 7 amazing grandchildren.

     Beverly absolutely adored her grandchildren.

Perhaps appearing “low-key” to those that did not know her well; for those of us that did know her, Beverly was an exceptionally strong, caring, no-nonsense woman who “spoke her mind”. Doing so best while sharing her personal testimony of the goodness, mercy and love of God who blessed and sustained her throughout her journey.

Preceding Beverly into eternity; her parents, Mary and Howard Roberts, and eldest brother Mozell Roberts.

Beverly leaves to celebrate her life and continue her legacy: two children, Erick Bond of Avondale, Arizona, and Brittany Bond Moore (Alani) of Upper Marlboro, Maryland; seven grandchildren, Sa’Myra, Sa’Nai, Summer, Santana, Skylar, Jaida and Jalissa; only sister and youngest sibling, Joan [Roberts] Wooley (Cleveland) of Leesburg, Virginia; two brothers, Shelton Roberts (Ermyn) of Silver Spring, Maryland, and Paul Roberts (Geraldine) of Lithonia, Georgia; Aunt Catherine Williams of Skippers, Virginia; 2 very special (ride or die) friends, Trena Moody and Shelia Connor, Maryland; and a host of cherished nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
