For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.

Carolyn Viola Lucas Manning, was born on Thursday, September 22nd, 1955, in Sussex County to Doris Lucas and the late Willie Lucas, where she spent her formative years. She graduated from Sussex Central High and later became an LPN, fulfilling her love for helping others. Throughout her career, she was known for her hard work and dedication; during the years, she met many lifelong friends from her time at Southside Virginia Training Center and from working for the Department of Corrections.
Carolyn loved spending quality time with family, when she was not working. After retirement, she enjoyed playing on her tablet, spoiling the grandkids, Facebook, sharing stories and watching her favorite shows: Sanford and Son, The Neighborhood, Young & Restless and Bold & Beautiful.
On Sunday, October 29th, 2023, at the age of 68, Carolyn passed away. As a beloved daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and friend, she will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. In addition to her father, she was predeceased by her husband, Willis Manning.
Carolyn was a loving mother to two daughters, Kimberly (Eugene) Miles of Prince George, Virginia and Ashley (Le’Velle) Shepard of Parkville, Maryland. She was a devoted grandmother to her grandchildren, Kimiyah Miles, Kirema Miles, Angelo Shepard and Le’Vella Shepard, and was looking forward to the birth of her latest grandson, Le’Velle Jr. Cherished memories will also remain in the hearts of: her mother, Doris Lucas of Sussex County, Virginia; her sisters, Shirley Adkins (Ernest) and Linda Richardson (Vester) both of Emporia, Virginia and Ruth Hobbs of Sussex County, Virginia; one brother, James Lucas (Gloria) of Emporia, Virginia; brother-in-love, John Manning (Joyce) of Charles City, Virginia; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, extended family members and friends, including special lifelong friends, Annie Reed and Francis Vivian Smith.
Relatives and Friends are encouraged to visit Mrs. Manning's tribute wall to share memories, extend condolences and to order floral tributes, as sentiments to the family.
