Cleopatra Daniel Obituary

Cleopatra Moody Daniel was born May 21, 1944 to Cleopatra Hill Moody and Robert Moody, Sr. in Greensville County, VA, losing her birth mother just two days later, a fragile and motherless infant Cleopatra was welcomed into the home of her paternal grandparents, Ruby Lee "Laura" and Johnnie "Att" Moody and their fifteen children. Accepted as both a granddaughter and sixteenth child, she soon won the hearts of each of five uncles and nine aunts who loved her a sister. Cherished as a blessing from God, the once motherless Cleopatra soon thrived under the love and care of Moody and Hill family until God intervened and united her father, Robert, and her mother's life-long friend Maggie Atkins into matrimony. As a child, while under her grandmother's tutelage, Cleo, began her Christian walk and joined the Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church, like her aunts, uncles, siblings, and cousins in the community, Cleo faithfully attended Jerusalem and gained an abounding love for God that remained into adulthood. As a member of Jerusalem, Cleo cherished the opportunity to serve God as a former church clerk, choir member and Senior Choir President, as well as Church Announcer. Cleo attended school in Greensville County, VA and she was a 1962 graduate of E. W. Wyatt High School. Upon completion of nursing training and successful completion of certification, she began employment with Dr. J. B. Adams and Emporia Medical Associates. In 1983, she joined the Virginia Department of Correction as a nurse and worked until retirement at Southampton Correctional Complex in 2010. Forever the gracious host, Cleo wore many hats in her role as family matriarch upon the death of her beloved Aunt Annie Mae Banks. She often hosted family gatherings where she lovingly prepared the best "Sweet Potato" Pudding in the world, stuffing and fresh squeezed lemonade. She extended that same hospitality and love to others in her community and neighborhoods. Early on March 25, 2015, God called Cleo home to not only reunite with her birth mother, Cleopatra Hill Moody, her parents Robert, Sr. and Maggie Moody, also her beloved grandmother, Laura, and her sisters, Laura "Mushie" Moody and Charlotte "Stella Mae" Powell. Left to cherish her memory are her three children: Pamela D. Vaughan (Dennis) of Sandston, VA; Tammy L. Daniel of Emporia, VA ; Joseph Tilghman Daniel (Lisa) of Alexandria, VA; one step-son, Verlie Daniel of Portsmouth, VA: four grandchildren, Nhya Seward, Ashley Vaughan, Elise and Ethan Daniel; four sisters; Mary Harris (William) and Mildred Marie Moody (Jerry) of Emporia, VA, Joyce Gatling (Jeffrey) and Sandra Hayes (Dennis) of Brooklyn, NY; two brothers, Robert Moody, Jr. (Sharon) of Bronx, NY, Jesse McNair of Baltimore, MD, a brother-in-law, Delbert Powell of Fort Washington, MD; six Aunts, Gertrude Grant (Lonnie), Rena Odom, Mamie Dickens, Diane Wilkes, Thelma Jackson and Fannie Cooke, an Uncle, Joseph (Loney) Moody, fourteen nephews, eight nieces, numerous cousins, other relatives and friends including Bertina High, Jesse Mallory, Chanda Mason and Theresa Mason Donaldson, a quasi-daughter and caregiver Peggy Washington
