Obituary

Memories are treasures no one can steal. Death is the heartache nothing can heal.

Some may forget you now that you are gone, But we shall remember you no matter how long.

Clinton Lee Mayfield, son of the late Joe and Trula Mayfield, was born on Monday, July 26, 1937, in Jarratt, Virginia.

‘Dick’, as he was fondly called by his loving family and friends, was educated in the Sussex County School System. Early in life, he relocated to Brooklyn, New York, where he became gainfully employed with Key Food Warehouse. He was a dedicated employee for twenty-five years, until his retirement. After which, he and his family returned back to Jarratt, Virginia. He then gave his life to Christ and united in fellowship with First Anointed Church, under the leadership of Apostle Alma Bowman.

Clinton was all about family. As a devoted husband, father and grandfather, he loved his family dearly. Being in the presence of his family brought him great joy! His hobbies included: driving cars for Owen Ford, mowing the lawn and fishing - which was his favorite.

Life is but a stopping place, A pause in what’s to be, A resting place along the road, to sweet eternity. We all have different journeys, Different paths along the way. We all were meant to learn some things, but never meant to stay… Our destination is a place, Far greater than we know. For some the journey is quicker, For some the journey’s slow. And when the journey finally ends, We’ll claim a great reward, And find an everlasting peace, Together with the Lord. On Wednesday, August 23, 2023, while in the serenity of his home, surrounded by his loving family, Clinton Lee Mayfield entered in eternal rest. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: a daughter, Sharon Alston; grandson, Davone Robinson and a sister, Dorothy Brown.

Treasured memories shall forever remain the hearts of: his loving and devoted wife, of 57 years, Annie Mayfield, whom he affectionately called ‘Wine’ or ‘Momma’; eight powerful sons, Terry, Ernest (Nina), Cornell (Yvette), Alonzo (Leatonia), Clinton, Shawn, Toni and Lazarus (Brandi); seven precious gems, Babette, Sherl, Rose (Travis), Alvina (Darryl), Phoebe, Ebony (Derrick) and Jaquayah; fifty-seven amazing grandchildren; sixty-four lovely great-grandchildren; six adorable great, great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Gracie (Robert), Elizabeth (Earl) and Beulah; one brother-in-law, John; god daughter, Bridie Loney; devoted friend, Curtis Foster; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
