“For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were
dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with
hands, eternal in the heavens.”
~ II Corinthians 5:1
Dorothy Mae Easter Claiborne, born on August 20th, 1942, was the beloved youngest child of Paul Ryland Easter and Mary Eva Daniel. Growing up in a close-knit family, she shared her early years with her brothers Thomas and Amos, and her sister, Shirley. Dorothy attended Greensville High School, where she began forming the values that would shape her life.
She later married Morris C. Claiborne Sr., a dedicated member of the Armed Forces. Together, they traveled the world, ensuring that their children had the best life experiences and opportunities. Dorothy was a devoted mother to her three children: Theresa, her eldest; Mercury-Morris, her middle child, who preceded her in death; and Michael, her youngest. For ten years, Dorothy cared lovingly for Mercury, who was a quadriplegic, embodying the role of a dedicated and compassionate “angel” nurse.
Dorothy’s hobbies were a reflection of her vibrant spirit and creativity. She loved gardening and, despite not always having her sister Shirley’s green thumb, she was a master of the zero-turn mower, keeping her lawn immaculate and beautiful. Sewing was her most cherished pastime, and her skill was unmatched—she created nearly everything from scratch, with her daughter Theresa not owning a store-bought pair of jeans until the 7th grade! Dorothy took great joy in making quilts and, as every sewer does, accumulated a beloved collection of fabrics.
Preceded in death by her brothers, Thomas and Amos, and her sister, Shirley Easter Brown, Dorothy leaves behind a legacy of love and memories. She is survived by her daughter, Theresa Mae Claiborne; her son, Michael Wayne Claiborne, his loving wife, Tamra, and her cherished grandchildren, Madeson and Maisen. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends also carry her memory forward.
Dorothy Mae Easter Claiborne is dearly missed by all who knew and loved her, and her memory will remain in our hearts forever.
