Dorothy Hicks Obituary

"Remembering you is easy, we do it everyday
Missing you is a heartache, which will never go away."

On Friday, February 23, 1940 the life journey of  Dorothy Mae Powell Hicks began in Emporia, Virginia. Dorothy, was born to parentage of the late David and Molly Jones Powell, while growing up in the community she received her formal education from in Greensville County Schools.
As she matured she came to know the Lord as her personal saviour and joined the Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church of Emporia, Virginia. Dorothy loved working for the Lord, but also enjoyed working as a Housekeeper at the local hotel,  for several years. If she wasn’t working at the hotel, then you could definitely find her working in the garden. All that she harvested was put to good use, as she would preserve them for her family and friends.
As time progressed, she met and united in Holy Matrimony with the love of her life, James Hicks, Sr.  This union was blessed with eight beautiful children. Family came first for Dorothy. She had a heart of gold and you could often find her enjoying quality time with her family and friends. Her many labors of love will not be forgotten.
On Friday, August 2, 2019, while in the care of Southern Virginia Regional Medical Center, Emporia, Virginia, Dorothy Mae Hicks, peacefully transitioned from this earthly tabernacle to a building that’s not made with hands and eternal in the heavens.
