Memories are treasures no one can steal. Death is the heartache nothing can heal.
Some may forget you now that you are gone, But we shall remember you no matter how long.
Mr. Eddie Odom, age 71, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 3rd, 2025, in Upper Marlboro, Maryland, following his courageous journey with early-onset dementia. In his final years, he was lovingly supported by his devoted siblings, Julia Nix and Joseph Odom, whose care and companionship brought him comfort through the challenges of his illness.
Born on September 4th, 1953, in Emporia, Virginia, Eddie was the youngest son of the late Veto and Evelyn Holmes Odom. Raised in the close-knit communities along the Virginia–North Carolina border, he was shaped by the timeless values of humility, self-reliance, and hard work.
A proud graduate of Greensville County High School, Class of 1972, Eddie charted a new course for himself when he relocated to the Washington, D.C. area—a bold step that would define the rest of his life. Settling in Prince George’s County, Maryland, he built a life rooted in discipline, quiet determination, and unwavering love for his family.
Eddie dedicated 37 years of service to the United States Postal Service, where his calm leadership, fairness, and work ethic earned him the respect of colleagues and supervisors alike. He furthered his education by studying leadership through USPS and pursuing coursework in real estate and English at Prince George’s Community College—always with an eye toward building a better future for himself and those he loved.
Resourceful and self-taught, Eddie became a hands-on real estate investor, owning and managing several residential properties across Maryland. Whether making repairs himself or overseeing renovations, he took pride in enhancing the spaces he owned. His entrepreneurial spirit extended to the stock market, where he actively engaged in day trading, never shying away from calculated risks and new opportunities.
In the late 1970s and early 1980s, Eddie was a familiar face on the streetball courts of Prince George’s County. His skill, composure, and competitive spirit earned him quiet respect among his peers. In the 1990s, he passed his love of the game to the next generation by coaching his children’s basketball teams, instilling in them the same values of discipline, focus, and perseverance that defined his own life.
In 1982, Eddie married Angela Odom, and together they raised three children—Danielle, Ashleigh, and Sean—in Bowie, Maryland. Though reserved by nature, Eddie's love for his family ran deep and steady. He found joy in simple moments: family dinners, long drives, casual games of football and baseball, and offering life lessons through quiet example rather than words. Known for gifting young relatives $2 bills accompanied by his signature advice, “Save it,” Eddie left behind small but lasting reminders of responsibility, legacy, and care.
In later years, he shared companionship and many meaningful moments with his second wife, Regina Odom.
Eddie’s personal joys reflected his character—steady, thoughtful, and quietly passionate. A loyal sports fan, he admired athletes like Kobe Bryant, who embodied discipline and grit. He had a deep appreciation for classic soul music, especially the timeless sounds of Sam Cooke, The Temptations, and Fats Domino. Whether at the casino enjoying quiet fun, at the golf driving range, or meticulously caring for his prized Datsun 260, Eddie approached life with pride and intentionality.
He leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and quiet strength. Cherishing his memory are his former wives, Angela Odom and Regina Odom; his daughters, Danielle A. Odom of Los Angeles, California, and Ashleigh B. Odom of Washington, D.C.; his son, Sean E. Odom (Brittany) of Fayetteville, North Carolina; and his beloved grandchildren, Kaydence Odom, Lia Mason, Xandr Mason, and Cruz Odom.
Eddie is also survived by his sisters, Julia Nix, Corene Morgan Odom, and Dorothy Webb (Alexander); his brothers, Abraham Odom (Teloria) and Joseph Odom (Doris); sisters-in-law, Rena Odom, Thelma Odom, Catherine Odom, and Deborah Odom; his uncle, Thomas Jones; two aunts, Mattie Holmes Turner and Annette Holmes; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and cherished friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Veto and Evelyn Holmes Odom; his sisters, Mattrue Washington, Charlotte Perkins, Margaret Williams, Gladys Odom, and Flossie Odom; and his brothers, Simon, James, Paul, Bendoyle, Haywood, Bill, Elisha, Walter Sr., Henry, and Moses Odom.
Mr. Eddie Odom was a man of quiet resolve, unwavering integrity, and steadfast love for his family. He built his life with determination, led by quiet example, and left behind a legacy that endures in every life he touched. His presence will be deeply missed, and his memory will be lovingly carried forward by all who knew him.
