Effie Mitchell Obituary

Effie Louise Mitchell, daughter of the late Harvey and Annie Lindsey began her journey through life on March 5, 1940 in Emporia, Virginia.

While growing up in Emporia, she attended the public schools of Greensville County. After high school she entered the workforce, holding different positions with Holiday Inn and Kingsberry Homes. At an early age, Effie accepted Jesus Christ as her personal savior and became a member of the St. Paul Church of God In Christ. It was there that her spiritual gifts were developed and love for God deepened. She was a faithful member until her health declined.

As life progressed, Effie united in Holy Matrimony with the love of her life, Sidney Mitchell. She was a very strong minded woman, kind and a giving woman of faith. “Who can find a virtuous woman? She is worth far more than rubies” (Proverbs 31:10). Effie’s qualities of hard work, fear of God, respect she had for her husband, love for her children, foresight, encouragement, care for others, concern for the poor and love for her family, all led her to a life of enjoyment, honor and worth. She loved her family and would do anything she could for them.

"When peace like a river, attendeth my way, When sorrows like sea billows roll, Whatever my lot, thou hast taught me to say, It is well, it is well with my soul." On Tuesday January 5, 2021, while in the care of Southern Virginia Medical Center, Effie recalled the refrain “It is well, it is well with my soul” and crossed the great divide, exchanging life for eternal rest. Her seeds are well-sown; her service on earth is complete, and she now experiences the victory and triumph of eternal life. She is now reunited with those who have preceded her in death; her late husband, Sidney Mitchell; children, Sidney Mitchell, Jr., Veronica Easter and Lawanda Mitchell-Rawles.

May the winds of heaven blow softly and whisper in your ear, how much we love and miss you and wish that you were here. We who remain that continue to whisper to heaven words of love and remembrance as we pass her to God’s keeping and care are: her son, Ray Mitchell, Sr., grandchildren and great grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Lillie M. Pittman and Shirley Squire; special friend, Vivian Jones; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
