Eleanor Harper Obituary

Eleanor L. Harper was called to Glory during the early morning of July 4, 2015 in her home. She was born on August 23, 1927 in Wake Forest, NC to the late Joe Nathan and Laura Emma Lewis. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Nancy Fitzgerald, Catherine Taylor and Mary Elizabeth Winston. She retired from Central State Hospital in Petersburg, VA; after twenty five plus years of service. "During the day" she worked at Moonshine Cleaners on the "Avenue" her heyday. Eleanor served as past Daughter Ruler of the Majestic Temple #109 in Petersburg, VA. She was a devoted member of the Merrynettes Social Club. She loved to play pokeno or any card games. She was a member of the Mount Olive Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Wesley McLaughlin as pastor. Eleanor leaves an impact on the hearts of her devoted companion, Randall Johnson and his family; a devoted sister, Margaret Winston; one brother, Joe Lewis. Although she had no children of her own; she helped to raise her loving niece, Laura Wilkins and nephew, Carlton "Bubba" Fitzgerald; other nieces and nephews are Cynthia Winston, Kathy Upchurch, Berdinia Lanier (Ronald), Roderick Winston (Pam) and Lewis Winston; also Joe Lewis, III, Rollethia Willis, Lawrence Lewis and Fred Lewis (Pat); a host of cousins; includes Lucille, Crump and Evelyn Jones. Many friends including, Ethel Bellamy and Karla Allen.
