Like a shadow in the moonlight, like the whisper of the seas,

In the shadow of our sorrow, past the whisper of goodbye,
Love shines through eternity, a heartbeat from our eye.
With humbled submission to the will of God, we pause to honor the life of Eric Barnes, who was born in Brooklyn, New York, to Benjamin and Ethelene Barnes on June 5, 1965. He received his formal education by attending the Vailsburg High School in Newark, New Jersey and later graduating in 1984.
As life progressed, he went on to North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University in Greensboro, North Carolina for two years. His undergraduate studies were short lived due to deciding to enlist into the United States Army. There he achieved the rank of Specialist and was honorably discharged in 1992. He later became a Corrections Officer with the Greensville Correctional Center in Jarratt, Virginia where he attained the rank of lieutenant before retiring in 2012.
On Thursday, August 13, 2020; while in the care of Encompass Health & Rehabilitation Center, Richmond, Virginia, Eric departed this earthly life. Eric is preceded in death by Uncle, John Earl Newsome, Aunt, Odessa Thomas, Uncle, Willie Ralph Thomas, Cousin, Willie Best, Cousin, Sherman Best, Uncle, James Newsome, Aunt, Rose L. Smith, Cousin, Danyell Thomas, Cousin, Willie Thomas, Jr., Cousin, Willie Thomas the 3rd.
Though the clouds may hang over, there will be a brighter day, in that land that they call heaven, God shall wipe all tears away. Eric will be forever cherished by his surviving loved ones: his parents, Benjamin and Ethelene Barnes; brother, John G. Barnes; wife, Audrey Barnes Johnson; son, Jarrell Barnes, Sr; step-children, Markel and Christopher Gibson; grandchildren, Adele Barnes, Kira Barnes and Jarrell Barnes, Jr.; his aunt, Mary Best; a host of other close relatives and friends.
Relatives and Friends are encouraged to visit Mr. Barnes' tribute wall to share memories and extend condolences, as sentiments to the family.
