Ernest Lee 'Soup Bone' Easter

Ernest Lee Easter, affectionately known to many as “Soup Bone,” was born on Saturday, September 24th, 1960, in Emporia, to the late Walter Seaborn and Celestine Easter. He was the third of six children, growing up surrounded by family, faith, and the strong values that would shape his life.

At an early age, Ernest joined Royal Baptist Church, where he nurtured his spiritual foundation. After graduating from high school, he began what would become a remarkable and dedicated 45-year career in the stone industry. He was first employed at Trego Stone Rock Quarry, later known as Vulcan Materials Company, where he served faithfully as a certified diesel mechanic. Ernest possessed a rare mechanical gift—able to repair virtually any piece of machinery he touched. Though he once considered sports, he quickly discovered his true passion was under the hood of a car. A master mechanic, he proudly assembled and put his very first car—a Chevy Nova—on the road with his own hands, a testament to his skill and determination.

Ernest was a loving father, devoted grandfather, caring brother, uncle, and loyal friend. Known for his strong work ethic and dependable spirit, he was someone family and friends could always count on. His quiet strength and steady presence left a lasting impression on all who knew him.

On Tuesday morning, February 17th, 2026, Ernest peacefully departed this life surrounded by the love of his family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald Gene Easter and John Sylvester Easter.

He leaves to cherish his precious memories three sons: Darius Marque Easter, Lamont Easter (Latoya), and Lorenzo Easter, all of Emporia, Virginia; one stepdaughter, Jazmine Williams of Emporia, Virginia; and five beloved grandchildren: Dajiah Easter of Plymouth, North Carolina, Janiya Easter, Lamont Easter Jr., Sayvion Stewart, and Darrion Stewart, all of Emporia, Virginia.

He is also survived by two brothers, Clarence Easter (Juanita) of Emporia and Samuel Easter (Alma) of Lawrenceville; one sister, Martha Carter (Johnny) of Plymouth, North Carolina; one sister-in-law, Cheryl Moody; devoted nieces Laketa Fletcher, Shaketa Easter, Denise Campbell, Shanise Easter, Jasmine Blunt, and Ja’Mila Morgan; and a host of other loving relatives and dear friends.

Ernest’s legacy of hard work, faith, and unwavering love for his family will forever remain in the hearts of those who were blessed to know him.
