Obituary

Evelyn (Lundy) Waller Moore, fell asleep in death on Tuesday, January 17, 2023 at Parham Rehabilitation Center in Richmond, Virginia, at the age of 97.  Evelyn, affectionately called ‘EL’, was born on Saturday, May 9, 1925 in Emporia, Virginia. She was preceded in death by: her parents, Hardy Bailey and Dora Jones; three sisters, Edna Mae Crawford, Martha Ann Lewis and Earline Davis and one brother, Otis Jones.

Evelyn married Percy Waller, Jr. at the age of 18. To this union two daughters were born, Bettie Ann Stubbs (Charles) Richmond, Virginia and Mildred ‘Hibbie’ Jarell of Ewing Township, New Jersey. She later married John Marshall Moore, affectionately known as ‘Pop’ and became step-mother to his eight sons and two daughters, of whom she was very fond of. They remained happily married until his death.

Evelyn was a very hard worker. She loved flowers, decorating, shopping and she loved to dress! One of her favorite past times was catching the Greyhound bus to Richmond to shop with her daughter and grandchildren on Grace Street and hitting the Malls :) She joined Salem Baptist Church at an early age and remained an active faithful member, until her health failed. She retired from Southampton Textile Company in Emporia after many years of service.

Evelyn leaves to mourn and cherish her memory: two loving and devoted daughters, Bettie Stubbs (Charles) and Mildred Jarell; seven grandchildren, Cheryl Brown (Thomas), Tracy Murray (Johnathan) and Danielle Goodman (Bryan) all of Richmond, Virginia, Samuel ‘Keith’ Taylor of Trenton, New Jersey, Sharon Jarrell of Morrisville, Philadelphia, Edward ‘Mess’ Jarell and Stacey Jarrell (Raymond) both of Charlotte, North Carolina; one step-grandchild, Melinda Moore (devoted) of Emporia, Virginia; twelve great, greatgrandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
