Gail Mitchell Obituary

“God saw you getting tired, And a cure was not to be,

So He put His arms around you, And whispered, “Come to me…”

Gail Squire Mitchell was born October 9, 1966 to Mamie Hicks Squire and the late Wendell Squire in Northampton County, NC. On Saturday, September 17, 2022 at Bon Secours Southside Regional Medical Center, Petersburg, VA. God, in His infinite wisdom, decided to pick a beautiful flower to add to His garden in Heaven.

Gail received her education from the Greensville County Public School System and graduated with the class of 1989. At an early age, she accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior, was baptized and joined the Jerusalem Baptist Church, Skippers, VA where she attended faithfully for many years.

Gail was employed with Walmart of Emporia, VA where she worked for twenty plus years until her health began to decline. She thoroughly enjoyed her job, always assisting customers with her beautiful smile. She loved her coworkers and considered them a part of her family.

Gail met and married the love of her life, Roscoe ‘Rocky’ Mitchell, and they were married for 27 beautiful years until the Lord called him home in 2018.

Gail was a beautiful person with a sweet spirit. If you knew her, you had no choice but to love her! She always had a loving heart and was willing to help anyone she could. Gail was an avid Washington Redskins fan and enjoyed watching them play. She enjoyed having a good time and she did not let any grass grow under her feet! She lived her life to the fullest, loved God with all her heart and served her fellow man. She will truly be missed!

Gail is now reunited in heaven with her father, Wendell Squire; husband, Roscoe ‘Rocky’ Mitchell and one sister, Amy Squire.

Left to cherish fond, beautiful memories of our beloved Gail are: her mother, Mamie Hicks Squire of Emporia, VA; children-at-heart, Tonya Cooper (Richard) and Benita Mitchell, both of Newport News, VA; five grandchildren-at-heart, Devene S. Mitchell, Tamika R. Mitchell and De’Shara M. Mitchell, all of Newport News, VA and Luis A. Urbina III and Saniya A. Mitchell, both of Hampton, VA; two great grandchildren-at-heart, Breon and Cameron Jackson of Newport News, VA; two sisters, Delsa Whitehead (Elder Michael Sr.) and Elsie Brown (Edward Sr.) both of Emporia, VA; one brother, Larry Squire (Bridgette) of Emporia, VA; sister-in-law, Ada Mae Edwards (Carliss) of Wilson, NC; brother-in-law, Roosevelt ‘June’ Mitchell of Wilson, NC; two aunts, Mary Ann Harrison of Emporia, VA and Julia High of Wadesboro, NC; three special devoted nieces, Krystal Brown, Desiree Whitehead and Octavia Harrison; five nephews, Michael Whitehead, Jr. (Mercedes), Edward Brown, Jr., Corie Batts, Darnell Williams and Terrell Williams; two special godsons, Tristan and Saavy Harrison; special friend, Walter Hunnicutt; a host of cousins, loving relatives and close friends.

“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.”
