Mr. Garland Lee Roberts, 81, transitioned into eternal rest on Wednesday, August 5, 2020 at Southside Regional Medical Center.
Garland was born in Emporia, Virginia to the late Quinton and Ella Roberts on April 16, 1939. He was educated in Greensville County Public Schools. As a young man, he accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior and became a member of Claresville Baptist Church.
Garland held several positions with different companies over the years. He worked as a lumberman with Kingsboro Homes, as well as a machine operator with the American Box Company, where his father was also employed. At one time, he was a laborer with his brothers, Roosevelt and James at Ames Construction in Baltimore, MD. Eventually, he went on to work for Lenox Hill Hospital in New York as an elevator operator, where his sister, Dorothy Daniels was also employed. Garland knew first-hand the importance of family. He was devoted to his family. Garland was dedicated to helping others in his family and in his community. Neighbors would often comment on how nice and thoughtful he was to help them with their yard and providing them a ride to the store.
Garland had an affinity for cars. His favorite car was a Mustang. He took great care of the many cars he had over the years. Family jokingly knew Garland would check the oil several times! His laughter and beautiful spirit will surely be missed! Along with his father and mother, he was preceded in death by his brother, Roosevelt Roberts, and sister, Dorothy (Dot) Daniels.
Garland leaves to cherish his memories: brothers, James Roberts, Cleveland (Buck) Roberts, and Edward Roberts; sisters, Alice Nelson, Christine Turner, Earnestine Garner and Shirley Jones; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends
