For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared
with the glory which shall be revealed in us.

George T. Pearson, affectionately known as "Puddin," was born on Friday, March 17th, 1950, to Vastie Pearson and James Adams in Emporia, Virginia, within Greensville County. He graduated from Edward W. Wyatt High School in 1968 and proudly served a limited term in the United States Army. In 1971, George moved to Brooklyn, New York, where he would call home until he was called to eternal rest on Tuesday, February 25th, 2025.
George had a deep love for his family and friends, a love that he cherished until the very end. He was known for his sociable nature, always eager to connect with those around him. He enjoyed lively conversations, music, and games like "Name That Tune." Music held a special place in his heart, especially the energetic rhythms of James Brown, and he often entertained himself by looking in the mirror, using a hairbrush as a microphone. His love for music extended beyond his personal enjoyment—George became known as “DJ Sweet G” and spun vinyl records at birthday parties and other social gatherings, delighting others with his collection of 45s, records, and albums in his beloved garage.
George was preceded in death by his mother, Vastie Pearson; father, James Adams; brother, James Pearson; sister, Louise Moody; niece, Gloria Robinson; and nephew, Larry Moody.
He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife, Mertis Pearson, of Brooklyn, NY; his daughter, Vickie Pearson, of Brooklyn, New York; his son, Kyree Pearson, of Los Angeles, California; and his beloved grandson, Benjamin C. Hawkins, of Brooklyn, New York.
George is also survived by nieces: Barbara Davis (Alonzo), Centreville, Virginia; Carolyn Long (Gilbert), Pleasant Hill, North Carolina; Tracy Simm, Rocky Mount., North Carolina; Joyce Ann Johnson (Eric), Emporia, Virginia; Diane Boyd, Durham, North Carolina; Honorary niece, Rashida Robinson, Raleigh, North Carolina; nephews: James Pearson Jr. (Shelia), Fredericksburg, Virginia; Tyrone Moody of Emporia, Virginia; sister-in-laws: Lucy Vincent, Gaston, North Carolina; Linda Sandlain (Fernandez), Gaston, North Carolina; Thelma Robinson (Manuel), Brooklyn, New York; brother-in-laws: Donald Robinson (Delphine), Emporia, Virginia; Harry Robinson, Gaston, North Carolina. Additionally, he is survived by a host of great nieces, great nephews, cousins, and many friends who will forever hold his memory in their hearts.
George’s life was a celebration of family, music, and connection. He leaves behind an enduring legacy of love and joy that will continue to inspire all who knew him.
