Georgia “Belle” Williams passed away peacefully on May 16, 2026, following a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease and pancreatic cancer. She was born September 15, 1940, in Anderson, SC but spent much of her adult life in Upper Marlboro, MD.
Belle attended and graduated from Geer Gantt High School in 1958. After graduation, she left the south for the energy and excitement of city life in Washington, DC. Initially she worked as a nanny until she found full time employment at Nikky Young, a high-end women’s boutique, as a seamstress. At this time, Belle enjoyed spending time with her sister and “wing-woman,” Earlene Black. However, her time as a single lady came to an end in 1963 when she met the love of her life, Edward L. Williams, “Eddie.” On August 28, 1965, she wed her soulmate at a grand ceremony attended by family and friends. Together they built a life centered on love, family, and devotion to one another.
In 1971, Belle gave birth to her first child, Edward Lee, Jr., “Teddy.” At this time, she eagerly transitioned to being a full-time mother. In 1973, she welcomed her precious baby girl, Tara Shante. For many years, she dedicated herself fully to raising her family with patience, strength, and love.
Belle loved to cook and nurture all. Her kitchen was a place of comfort, laughter, and togetherness. She found great joy in preparing meals for family, friends, and anyone in need of a warm plate and a welcoming heart. Belle often offered seconds, thirds, and fourths. No one escaped her home without gaining a few pounds!
In April 1988, Belle re-entered the workforce as an insurance claims specialist at NALC (National Association of Letter Carriers). She continued to touch the lives of those around her with her kindness and dedication. She retired from NALC in January 2018.
One of Belle’s greatest joys was sewing. She was an excellent seamstress. Belle took pride in her work and shared her talent through beautifully making clothes and alterations. Many of her creations were for her children and grandchildren.
Belle was also a devoted member of Landover Hills Baptist Church for over 30 years and found great joy in serving others through her faith. She taught Sunday school to first and second grade children, sharing kindness, guidance, and encouragement with every child she met. She treasured the years when her children and eventually grandchildren attended her classes. Belle also generously volunteered her time decorating the church for special events and assisting with the food pantry, always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need.
Belle will be remembered for her spirit, resilience, and love she poured into everything she did. Belle is survived by her spouse, Eddie; her children Teddy (Melba), and Tara; godson Troy Harges, Jr.; five beloved grandchildren, Danielle, Trinity, Sydney, Xavier, and Travion; three sisters Earlene Black, Doris Wallace, and Marilyn Black; sisters-in-law Clarine Thomas, Ollie Harges, Elnora Uzzelle, Magaline Cofield, Raddie Jennette, Mildred Wright, and Lottie Woolfolk; brother-in-law Freddie Williams; and a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Allen; mother, Azlee; brothers John, Walter Lewis, and Earnestine; and sisters Dorothy Parker and Lola White.
Belle will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew and loved her.
