Praise the LORD! Praise God in His sanctuary; Praise Him in His
mighty firmament! Praise Him for His mighty acts; Praise Him
according to His excellent greatness! Praise Him with the sound of
the trumpet; Praise Him with the lute and harp! Praise Him with the
timbrel and dance; Praise Him with stringed instruments and flutes!
Praise Him with loud cymbals; Praise Him with clashing cymbals! Let
everything that has breath praise the LORD. Praise the LORD!
~Psalm 150
With humble submission to the will of God, we honor the life and legacy of Howard Hicks, a beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend.
Born on Sunday, November 16th, 1947, to the late Hubert Moss and Lizzie Hicks, Howard was educated at Diamond Grove School in Skippers, Virginia. From an early age, he professed his faith and accepted Jesus Christ as his Personal Savior, becoming a cherished member of Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church, Emporia, Virginia.
Howard dedicated over 30 years of his life to Dowell Pontiac/Sadlers, finding joy in his work and forming lasting connections. Known for his vibrant spirit, he never met a stranger. His exceptional talent as a bass player brought music to many, as he shared his gift with various churches and groups throughout the area for more than three decades.
His legacy leaves an indelible mark on the lives of family, friends, and fellow musicians alike. Howard remained faithful throughout his life, even as his health declined.
On Saturday, September 28th, 2024, Howard peacefully answered the Master’s call from his earthly labors to eternal rest in the comfort of his home. He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Mo’Shella Roberts; sisters, Betty Mae Hicks and Inez Webb; and brothers, George Hicks and Lee Moss.
Howard’s cherished memories will forever reside in the hearts of his children, Derrick Webb of Emporia, Virginia, and Zenoria Thomas of Pleasant Hill, North Carolina; his five grandchildren, Ka’Iial, Jamesha, Danielle, Cherelle, and Shenora; and five great-grandchildren, Lauryn, Kaylen, Jayden, Dylan, and Noah. He also leaves behind a lifelong friend, Patsy Moody; one brother, Hubert Hicks of Emporia, Virginia; two sisters, Argie Banks of Emporia, Virginia, and Betty Moss-Sewlyn of Portsmouth, Virginia; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends who will miss him dearly as he rests in the loving arms of Jesus Christ.
Relatives and Friends are encouraged to visit Mr. Hicks' tribute wall to share memories, extend condolences and to order floral tributes, as sentiments to the family.
