Ida McBeth Obituary

One thing I have desired of the Lord, That will I seek: That I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to inquire in His temple.

For in the time of trouble He shall hide me in His pavilion; in the secret place of His tabernacle He shall hide me; He shall set me high upon a rock.

~ Psalm 27: 4 - 5

Ida Belle Manning McBeth was born October 17, 1941 in Emporia, Virginia to the late Claude ‘Bid Daddy’ Manning, Sr. and Ida E. ‘Big Ma’ Lundy Manning. She graduated high school in 1959.  Ida met and fell in love with Jesse McBeth, and they were married on April 20, 1962. This union was blessed with the birth of three sons, Kevin, Edwin and Quentin.

Ida’s love for education and helping others led her to a career in Nursing. She graduated from Halifax College as a Registered Nurse. For a number of years, she worked at Greensville Memorial Hospital and Emporia Nursing Home. She also taught nursing and drove a school bus. She loved education and constantly talked about going back to school. Ida also had a passion for sports. She played on softball teams in Emporia and was an avid basketball fan. Although she worked long hours, she always made time to attend her sons’ basketball games.

Oh, they tell me of a home, Far beyond the skies. Oh, they tell me of a home, So far away. Yes, they tell me of a home, Where no storm clouds rise. Oh, they tell me, Yes, they tell me of an uncloudy day. On Tuesday, January 24, 2023; while in the serenity of her home, God lifted Ida from this world of sin, sorrow and pain, to a place of peace and sweet eternal rest. Her seeds are well-sown; her service on earth is complete, and she’s now basking in the victory and triumph of eternal life. In addition to her loving parents, she was preceded in death by: her former spouse, Jesse McBeth; son, Edwin McBeth; granddaughter, Monique McBeth; brothers, Claude Manning, Jr., Warren Nathaniel Manning, Sr. and Willis Manning, sisters; Evelina Gilliam, Audrey Simmons, Doreatha Turner, Linda Leslie and Emily Manning Rouse.

Your life was full of loving deeds, forever thoughtful of our special needs. Today and tomorrow, our whole life through, we will always love and cherish you. Her sweet spirit, caring heart and generosity will long be remembered by all those whose lives she touched. We who remain, struck by the bitter pain of death, but satisfied with the promise made by God, that He would wipe all tears from our eyes are: two sons, Kevin and Quentin McBeth; grandchildren, Danita, Kevin Jr., Quentina, Quentin, Quenetta and Quincy; great-grandchildren, TeLaisha, Aniya, Quemari, Quevon and Queden; one brother, John (Joyce) Manning; sisters-in-law, Lillian T. Manning and Carolyn Manning; brother-in-law, Robert Rouse; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Ida will be missed by all that she touched. She considered herself “lucky and grateful” for everyone that helped her throughout her life. Thanks to everyone that brought joy to her life.
