India 'Ladi' Gillus Obituary

Those we love remain with us, for love itself lives on, and cherished memories never fade because a loved one’s gone.

Those we love can never be more than a thought apart. For as long as there is memory, Ladi’s will live on in our hearts.

India Raquell Gillus, affectionately known as “Ladi,” began her journey through life on Wednesday, July 27th, 1988, in Richmond, Virginia, born to the loving parents David Cain and Arlene Gillus Cain.

Ladi was educated in the Brunswick County Public School System and was a proud graduate of Brunswick County High School, Class of 2006. She continued her education at Southside Community College, always striving to grow and better herself.

A true family-oriented soul, Ladi was best known for her angelic, infectious smile that could brighten anyone’s day. Her bubbly personality, stylish flair, and warm presence made her beloved by all who knew her. She carried herself with grace, love, and gratitude—never taking life’s blessings for granted, no matter how big or small. One of her favorite sayings, “I love you, Cuz,” reflected the deep love she held for her family and friends.

Ladi was a well-known and highly respected figure in her community. She had a passion for couponing, and she truly was the life of every gathering. To know her was to love her, and her beautiful spirit left a lasting impression on everyone she met. She was a sweet soul with a thankful heart, a vibrant energy, and an unconditional love for those around her.

On Thursday, July 17th, 2025, while resting peacefully in the serenity of her home, Ladi transitioned from a life of pain and sorrow to a place of eternal peace and rest. She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Johnson Gillus, and her uncle, Frankie Gillus.

She leaves behind not only her memory but a legacy of love, joy, and laughter that will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. She is lovingly remembered by her two cherished sons, Daveon Bullock and Amere Powell; her devoted parents, David Cain and Arlene Gillus Cain; her loving brother, David Cain, Jr.; and her dedicated sister, Shonta Gillus.

Also mourning her passing while celebrating her life are her grandmother, Willie Mae Gillus; aunts, Joyce Mason, Louise Adams, and Velma Peebles; uncles, Amos Cain and Calvin Cain; her goddaughter, Shanya Gillus; and a host of extended relatives and friends who will forever miss her dynamic personality, loving spirit, and unmistakable smile.

Though her physical presence is no longer with us, Ladi’s light will continue to shine in the lives she touched. Her memory is a blessing, and her love lives on in each of us.

Relatives and Friends are encouraged to visit Ms. Gillus' tribute wall to share memories, extend condolences and to order floral tributes, as sentiments to the family.
