Irvin Lewis "Mickie" Powell quietly entered into his heavenly home on Saturday, November 14, 2015 at his home in Richmond, VA. He was born in Virginia to the late George Washington and Mary Ruth Davis Powell.
He received his education in Emporia, VA. Irvin accepted Christ as his personal savior at an early age. During his childhood he attended and later joined the Rocky Mount Baptist Church in Emporia, VA. After moving to Richmond, VA he attended and joined the Broad Rock Baptist Church and served as an Usher.
Early in his life, Irvin moved to Baltimore, MD for a while before settling in Richmond, VA. He worked several places, but finally found the place he enjoyed most, the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles. Irvin proudly worked the DMV for over 53 years.
He leaves to cherish in memory one son, Alvin Powell of Emporia, VA; two grandsons, Orlando Powell and Anthony Williams (Shaketa); three great-granddaughters, Saraia, Azaraia and Leona Williams; a devoted friend, W.H. Williams; two sisters, Mary Rawling of Emporia, VA and Evelyn Jefferson (Andrew) of Brunswick County, Virginia); one brother, John W. Powell (Nannie) of Brunswick County, VA; one sister-in-law, Linda Powell of Richmond, VA; two aunts, Mildred Adkins of Emporia, VA and Catherine Claiborne (Norman) of Richmond, VA; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He also leaves his families of DMV co-workers, W.H. Williams Family and Southern Barton Heights family and friends.
