James Alpha Powell

James Alpha Powell, son of the late Joseph Powell Sr. and Alma Adams Powell Atkins was born on Saturday, May 17, 1958 in Greensville County, Virginia. He was educated in the Greensville County Public School System.

James enjoyed watching racing, Westerns, The Andy Griffith Show and YouTube. He also had a passion for working on cars. Spending quality time with his family and cuttin’ up with his buddies at the store brought him great joy.

Life is but a stopping place, A pause in what’s to be, A resting place along the road, to sweet eternity. We all have different journeys, Different paths along the way, We all were meant to learn some things, but never meant to stay… Our destination is a place, Far greater than we know. For some the journey is quicker, For some the journey’s slow. And when the journey finally ends, We’ll claim a great reward, And find an everlasting peace, Together with the Lord. On Monday, November 14, 2022; while in the serenity of his home, James peacefully transitioned from this earthly life unto eternal rest. In addition to his parents, James was also preceded in death by: his darling wife and apple of his eye, Lillian Ruth Peebles Powell; his beloved daughter, Lashonda Williams and two sisters, Lorine Powell and Christine Powell.

Though the clouds may hang over, there will be a brighter day, in that land that they call heaven, God shall wipe all tears away. His loving spirit, caring heart and generosity will long be remembered by all of those whose lives he touched: four children, Trena M. Peebles, Lashonda Sykes, Terrence Peebles and Jeremy Peebles, four grandchildren, Tryvon Hockaday, Terik Boyd, Samarion Peebles and his sidekick, Traze ’Duke’ Peebles; seven siblings, Queen Walton, Joseph Powell, Jr. (Pam), Roy Lee Powell (Cathy), Donald Powell (Debra), Connie Plum (Lum), Deloris Powell (Stanley) and Pamela Powell (Cornelius); uncle, Osbourne Adams; three aunts, Daisy Adams, Louise Adams and Catherine Claiborne; two greataunts, Gladys Cain and Gladys Adams; sister-in-law, Doretha Williams; brother-in-law, Darnell ‘Bruh’ Peebles; two devoted nieces, Rhonda Gary (Don) and Cierra Barnes; close friends, Keith Phipps, Raymond Phipps, Ronald Adams, Rudolph Adams and Earl Wilson; a host of other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Relatives and Friends are encouraged to visit Mr. Powell's tribute wall to share memories, extend condolences and to order floral tributes, as sentiments to the family.
