And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no
more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more
pain: for the former things are passed away.
~ Revelation 21: 4
James Marshall Givens, affectionately known as “Puddin” by his loving family and cherished friends, was born on Sunday, October 17th, 1954, in Halifax County, North Carolina, to the late Charlie Thomas Givens and Virginia Alease Spence Givens, both of Emporia, Virginia.
James accepted Jesus Christ early in life, a foundation that guided him throughout his journey. He was educated in the Greensville County Public School System and went on to pursue a successful career in computer services, earning the nickname “The Computer Guy” for his expertise and dedication. Over the years, James received numerous accolades from the companies he represented, reflecting his passion and commitment to excellence in his field.
Upon returning to Emporia, Virginia, James became a dedicated community advocate. He created and maintained the popular “We Are From Emporia” Facebook page, which served as a platform to share local history and important events, fostering a sense of pride and connection among residents.
On Thursday, December 26th, 2024, in the comfort of his home, James answered his Master’s call to eternal rest.
James leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion. Cherished memories will forever remain with his devoted friend and companion of ten years, Darryl L. McCown, and her son, Anthony S. Tillar; his children, Katina Davis, Chanta Reed, Spencer Givens, and Shalonda Blakeney; his sister, Doreatha Carrington; and a host of relatives and friends, including his devoted friend, David Hicks.
James Marshall Givens will be remembered for his kindness, his contributions to his community, and the love he shared with all who knew him. His memory will live on in the hearts of those he touched.
