James Edward Williams, affectionately known as “Freck” or “Freckles,” was born on November 7, 1942, in Emporia, Virginia, to the late Ida Mae Williams and stepfather, Charlie Allan Williams, Sr. He was also preceded in death by his beloved brother, Albert Lewis Williams and a long time dear friend, Mary McDonald of Washington, DC..
James entered eternal rest peacefully on Saturday, January 24, 2026, while in the compassionate care of Complete Care of Hyattsville, Maryland.
He received his education at E.W. Wyatt High School in Emporia, Virginia. After completing his schooling, James broadened his horizons by relocating to Washington, D.C., where he established his career and built lasting relationships.
James was well known for his culinary talents, particularly during his years cooking at Miller’s Restaurant in Washington, D.C. A devoted sports enthusiast, he was a lifelong and passionate fan of the Dallas Cowboys. Above all, James cherished time spent with family—gathering, laughing, and sharing treasured memories that will forever live in the hearts of those who knew him.
He leaves to cherish his memory four brothers: George Williams (Marguerette) of Washington, D.C., Johnny Williams of Dahlgren, Virginia; and Charlie Williams, Jr. and Willis Williams, both of Emporia, Virginia. He is also remembered fondly by his devoted niece, Tawanda Williams; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
While visiting family in Emporia, James was well known and warmly embraced by the Fairground Community. He remained faithful in maintaining long-standing friendships with Ms. Louise Delbridge, Mr. Rudolph Carey, and James “Boo Boo” Jones
James Edward Williams will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all whose lives he touched.
