Kathleen 'Kat' Tyler Obituary

"Sunset and evening star, And one clear call from me.

And may there be no moaning of the bar, When I put out to sea...

 

        Kathleen Rook Tyler, also known as 'Kat' was born in Emporia, Virginia on September 19, 1951 to the parentage of Pearline Rook and the late Norfleet 'Jimbo' Hicks. 

        Kathleen was baptized at an early age and joined the Jerusalem Baptist Church, where she served on the Usher's Ministry, until her health began to fail. She received her  education from the Greensville County Public School System. 

        Kathleen was employed at Western Sizzlin, as a cook, Perdue Farms of Emporia, Virginia and Franklin Braid Manufacturing Company.

        Kathleen enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, family and friends. She loved cooking, especially when it came to Sunday dinners, cookouts and birthday celebrations, for family members. She was well known for her candied yams and pineapple cake. 

        On Wednesday, April 15, 2020, Kathleen was called from labor to rest, while in the care of Southside Regional Medical Center, Petersburg, Virginia. In addition to her father, Kathleen was preceded in death by: one brother, Bernard Thomas; her grandmothers, Harriett Hicks and Lula-Powell Rook.

         Kathleen leaves to cherish her fond memories: her husband, Carol H. Tyler; mothers, Pearline Rook of the home and Iris G. Hicks of Emporia, Virginia; children, Veronica Robinson (Milton), which was also her devoted caregiver,  Felicia Rook (Michael) of Emporia, Virginia, Corey Rook (Tuanita) of Petersburg, Virginia and Don Gary (Rhonda) of Emporia, Virginia; fifteen grandchildren, Brandon, Bryant and Jason Rook, Tiffany R. HIll (Jugwon), Hazel Lowery (Johnnie), Thomas Fields (Aliyah), Natasha Robinson, Markiesha Omoyma (Andre*), Tiariah Eason, Malek Eason, Tianna Cooke, Kishiyon Walker, Tulani Bonner, Darrion Williams and Tuajhon Bonner; twelve great-grandchildren, Kimora Hodo, Mariah Rook, K*vion Hawkins, Camren Lower, Darian Day, Malayshus Hawkins, Kayden Rook, Levi Terry, Carter Omoyoma, Jason Rook, Jr., Caden Lowery and Layla Sledge; two devoted sisters, Vicki L. Hicks and Paulette Hicks-Cain (Nathan, Jr.) of Emporia, Virginia; two brothers, Alphonso P. Hicks (Amy) of Franklin, Virginia and Zachary T. Hicks of Honolulu, Hawaii; three aunts; Carolyn Carter (Solomon) of Littleton, North Carolina, Dorothy and Ollie Hicks both  of Emporia, Virginia; uncles, John Hicks (Elaine), Robert Hicks, James Hicks all of Emporia, Virginia and Waverly Hicks (Emma) of Mesa, Arizona; nieces, Tara (Jay), Demyra, Tyreeka, Tierra, Tonya, Kenya and Monique; nephews, De'Shawn and Stephon; devoted cousins, Mary Powell (Rev. Rudell Powell), Jackie Gary and Lulu M. Webb; a host of other relatives and friends.
