Kent Hopson Obituary

Kent Hopson was born October 28, 1967, in Drewryville, Virginia to the late Lonnie and Louise Hopson. He began his educational journey in Baltimore, Maryland and later returned to his homeland to attend Southampton County Public Schools, where he graduated in 1987.

Some would describe Kent in a phrase “mess around and find out”; others would say “life of the party”. His family would say a KING, a protector and reinforcer. He loved football and of course became a long time Dallas Cowboys Fanatic. Kent loved his family and usually expressed his love by being in the midst ready to solve everyone’s problems, whether it was car repair, household maintenance or just simple words of encouragement. Most of all, he was a grill master, ready to prepare meals for all so you could tell him how good the food tasted.

Kent was employed at Central State Hospital in Petersburg, Virginia, where he has impacted so many lives with his authority and sense of humor. With his many years of law enforcement experience, he also was employed at Southside Regional Jail in Emporia, Virginia for several years. Kent also was a long-time employee at Lifestar Ambulance Services.

On Tuesday, November 1, 2022, our dear love departed this earthly life while in the care of VCU MCV Health Care Center, Richmond, Virginia.

Kent leaves to cherish his memories: his wife of twenty nine years, Stephanie Hopson; five children, Larry Myrick (Nikki) of Stafford, Virginia, Ebony Myrick (Brian) of Hampton, Virginia, Kenttica Hopson of Lawrenceville, Virginia, Kenyanna Clark (Avery) of Stony Creek, Virginia and Aaron Hopson (Zacia) of Lawrenceville, Virginia; thirteen grandchildren, Keron, Andrew, London, Densiti, Givonna, Naomi, Maulaya, Ava, Alana, Amir, Ah’ryan, Avery Jr. and Aacyce; four brothers, Michael Hopson, Dr. Hugh Rico Hopson, Eric Hopson and Craig Hopson; two sisters, Carmen Greene and Tierra Hopson; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
