The Life & Legacy
of
Laverne Marie Seldon Johnson…
Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
~ Proverbs 3:5-6
With humbled submission to the will of God, we stand with this precious family to honor the life of Ms. Laverne Marie Seldon Johnson, who was born on Sunday, December 20, 1964 in Emporia, Virginia to the parentage of Mr. Samuel Seldon and the late Mrs. Annie Lee Seldon.
At an early age, Laverne was baptized and became a member of Little Shiloh Baptist Church of Emporia, Virginia, where she was a faithful and devoted member. It was there that her love for God was deepened and spiritual gifts nurtured. She served tirelessly as an Usher, as well as serving on several boards and committees. She absolutely loved serving in the Kingdom of God. All that knew or came in contact with her, could attest to the fact that she loved God! Whether it was a church program, anniversary or funeral, you could count on her to be there. Even through health challenges she remained steadfast.
Laverne graduated from Greensville County High School. After completing her studies there, she ventured out to Richmond. While there she had a son - Ricky Seldon. Realizing how much she missed her family, she decided to relocate to Emporia. Seeing the need to provide for her family, she became gainfully employed as a cashier clerk at what was fondly called the “Zip Mart” - where she worked for several years.
As life progressed, Laverne reunited with the love of her life, the late Tech. Sgt. Randy Johnson. They joined in Holy Matrimony and to this union one child was born, Ladeja Johnson. She loved her family. Although quiet and soft spoken you could always count on a smile and kind words. Laverne also enjoyed baking, shopping and spending quality time with family. She especially enjoyed getting together to celebrate birthdays or special holidays.
“Upon life’s journey, we are given opportunities to plant seeds of goodness, seeds of kindness, and seeds of blessings that bestow our hearts, our work, and our being. For those that sow the fields with loving generosity, so shall they reap the abundant harvest of eternal life.” On Friday, June 26, 2020; as the moon illuminated the starry sky, our dear loved one gained her wings, while in the serenity of her home. Her seeds are well sown, her service on earth is complete, and she now experiences the victory and triumph of eternal life. She now rejoins those who preceded her in death: her mother and sister, Patricia Seldon.
Every Christmas, every birthday, every Mother’s Day, you’ll be missed. Every family reunion, every Thanksgiving, you’ll be missed. Yesterday, today, tomorrow, everyday, You’ll be missed. In our hearts, in our minds, in our souls, you’ll always be missed. We who are bound to keep and cherish her memories are: loving children Ricky and Ladeja; father, Samuel Seldon Sr. (Betty); six siblings Alphonso Seldon (Valerie), Carolyn Taylor (Late Richard), Yvonne Clarke (Charles), Iris Seldon, Samuel 'Andy' Seldon, April Jack (Derrick); four aunts, Christine Rose, Arlene Tyler, Shirley Lundy and Sandy Lundy; a host of nieces, nephews, in-laws, cousins and friends.
