Lawrence Banks, son of the late Russell Bowser and Virginia Gray Banks, began his journey through life on Tuesday, September 29, 1959 in Northampton County, North Carolina. His formal education was obtained through the public schools of Northampton County.
Lawrence learned very early on the value of hard work. He held various jobs during his career, including Daniel Brother’s Plumbing Company, Weldon Mills and he worked on the tobacco farm. In later years, he became gainfully employed with Hunting Ingalls Shipyard, where he earned a certificate for fifteen years of dedicated service.
Lawrence loved fishing and playing pool. He was also a proud member of the Colonial Buck’s Hunting Club. He also enjoyed watching football and defending “his Redskins”. Even if his team lost, he still had to have the last word.
Lawrence was outgoing and enjoyed meeting new people. In 1980, Lawrence met Barbara Adams. They were eventually married in 1995. This union was blessed with three daughters, Lannika, Disheka and Ca’Mel Adams. Lawrence also had one son, Jamale Avent with Norma Greene.
On Friday, December 16, 2022, our dear loved one departed this earthly life and transitioned into eternal rest. In addition to his parents, Lawrence was preceded in death by: his daughter, Lannika; two sisters, Sandra Banks Lee (Robert) and Viesta Ennis; one brother, Willie Gray.
His love, care and generosity will always be remembered by: his wife, Barbara Banks; two daughters, Disheka Adams and Ca’Mel Adams all of Emporia, Virginia; his son, Jamale Avent (Natalie) of Valentines, Virginia; two grandsons, Tayevion and Traivion Adams; three granddaughters, KaMyah, Le’Asia and Kaliyah Pope; his beloved siblings, Rosa Fleming (Pastor Nathaniel Fleming) and Ethel Banks (Rufus) both of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, Edward Banks and Cecil Bowser (Margaret) both of Gaston, North Carolina, Herbert Banks of Henrico, North Carolina, Randy Banks (Sally) and Alex Banks (Mildred) both of Garysburg, North Carolina, Ronald Vann Banks of Skippers, Virginia, Earl Banks (Dorothy) of Weldon, North Carolina, James Bowser (Dorothy) and Elder William Bowser both of Emporia, Virginia; devoted friends, Charles Hudley (Hobart), John ‘JR,’ Earl, Rufus and Stanley Crawley; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, in-laws and friends, who love him dearly.
