Leroy Powell peacefully departed this life, after a lengthy illness on Saturday, February 7, 205 in his home. Leroy was born on June 4, 1949 to the late Mercie V. Powell, Sr. and Lucille Robinson Powell. He was preceded in death by his brother, Mercie V. Powell, Jr. He graduated from James Solomon Russell High School class of 1967. At an early age, he accepted Christ Jesus as his Lord and Savior and joined the Poplar Mount Baptist Church. Leroy had a deep love for singing which was demonstrated by his participation in many choirs of Poplar Mount. He served in the Young Adult Choirs at Poplar Mount and the Male Chorus organized by Reverend Carlton Powell. Leroy leaves to mourn; his son, Demond Powell of Richmond, VA, his mother, Lucille R. Powell of Newport News, VA; two sisters, Ophelia P. Daniels of Richmond, VA and Marner Lynett Harris (Ervin) of Williamsburg, VA; two grandchildren, Joshua Xavier Chandler and Adriana Powell both of Richmond, VA; four uncles, Dr. Grady W. Powell (Bertie)of Petersburg, VA, Samuel Robinson (Michaelene), Joseph Robinson (Cora) and Clayton Powell all of Emporia, VA; one sister-in-law, Joyce A. Powell of Emporia, VA; Dear nieces, Melissa Moses, Felicia Smith and Tonya Harris and a host of other relatives and friends.
