Linda Marie Carson was born in Waverly, Virginia on Wednesday, March 24, 1954 to the late Leroy Jones and Bertha Garrett. She was educated through the Sussex County School System and earned her General Educational Development (GED) in 1981.
Linda moved to Emporia, Virginia as a teenager and relocated to Baltimore, Maryland, where she worked as a seamstress, armored car driver and was a devoted housewife. In 1986, she returned to Emporia, and held various positions of employment. She loved jobs that allowed her to interact with people; with her big smile or did not chain her to a desk. She worked as a school bus driver, a driver with Fuji and she later worked in various restaurants, as a server, when she was not taking care of family.
Though short in stature, Linda has a big personality! She was full of life and did not take foolishness. If you brought foolishness her way, she tried to avoid confrontation, but had no problem introducing you to Crazy, Tell-It-Like-It-Is Linda, if the situation warranted it. But most of the time, she was a free spirit who was friendly, funny and loving. No matter what others said or thought about her, she lived life on her terms and was ruled by her big heart. She was a positive, spiritual and hopeful person, and that attitude remained, despite her battle with a terminal illness.
Anyone who knew Linda, knew she was a fashion plate who refused to look like a frumpy senior or grandma, because she still had it at 69. She loved her family, friends, soap operas, talking on the phone, playing Spades and Deuces Wild, playing the lottery, sweet tea, Mountain Dew, gold jewelry, shopping for bargains and flawless makeup (even though in later years she let her natural beauty show more).
Linda will be forever cherished by the family and friends who were blessed to have her in their lives. Though her physical flesh is gone, she will forever watch over and guide: her children, Lori Mabry and Asia Jones; grandchildren, Jason Mabry, Devin Mabry, Ryan Mabry, Kailyn Jones, Lauryn Banks, Milan Anderson-Jones, Alani Jones and Tristan Jones; special cousins, Susan Garrett and Charletta Smith; her special friends, many that she knew for 40+ years to include: Gloria Daniels, Christine Williams Richmond, Delois Cummings, Shirley Hosley, Frances Khan, Susan Buckner and Mary Adams among others; a host of other family members and friends.
Linda was predeceased by: her son, Tavares “TJ” Jones; parents, Leroy Jones and Bertha Hayes; sister, Pecoria Jones; cousin, Dorothy ‘Doretha’ Graham; and nephew, Delvon Jones.
She will forever be loved and missed for the joy and light she touched her family and friends with. But she is at peace, and her spirit and love lives on.
