Lorraine Roberson Obituary

Lorraine Davis Roberson, 104 years, of Courtland, VA died as she lived- peacefully and quietly on June 30, 2015 at the Courtland Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center. She was born on November 7, 1910 in Southampton County, VA to the late Joseph and Mattie Sykes Davis. Mother Roberson was a faithful member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, where she attended regularly; due in part to the generosity of her treasured friend and fellow church member, Melvin "Wink" Sykes. During her many years of service to the glory of God, she served in a number of capacities; including Sunday School teacher, Pastor's Aide and Deaconess. Before returning to her roots in Adams Grove, Mother Roberson was a very active member of Emanuel Baptist Church in Washington, DC. Mother Roberson retired in 1971 from the United States Department of Human Services, where she served in the position of nursing assistant in the Community Health Services Administration Directorate for Preventative Services. Much of her tenure would be spent in child health and maternal clinic services. She will be greatly missed by her only surviving sibling, Mrs. Johnnie D. Bradley, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends from near and far. She list among her godchildren, Faith Tennessee, Tiara Wiggins and Melissa Davis. She was predeceased by her husband, Carlos Austin Roberson; two brothers, Paul N. Davis and Russell Parker; seven sisters, Esther S. McGee, Eunice P. Bell, Helen D. Fields, Mattie D. Jackson, Ethel D. Cartwright, Sadie D. Barber, and Lydia D. Calviness
