On March 6, 2016, the Lord called to rest, Luthereen P. Reavis.
She was born on March 27. 1924 to the late Luther Bell and Ethel Gilliam Powell. She was the widow of James Alvin Reavis of Lawrenceville, VA. Having been reared in a Christian home, she joined the Diamond Grove Baptist Church at an early age and remained an active member until her illness. During her membership at Diamond Grove, she was very active and served as Chairman of the Deaconess Board until her illness.
During her early years, she attended Greensville County Public Schools. She received her Bachelor's Degree in Education from Saint Paul's College in 1945 and later received her master's degree from Virginia State Normal Institute (now Virginia State University) in 1958. She was an active member of Saint Paul's Graduate Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta.
She taught in Greensville County Public School system for several years and later retired from the Brunswick County Public School system after 45 years of service.
She leaves to cherish her memory: two daughters; Ms. Janice Reavis-Powell and Dr. LaVorne A. Reavis; a host of cousins, relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her two beloved sisters: Jacola Powell Bond and Evelyn Powell.
