Mary Allen Obituary

Mary Lee Roberts Allen, born on Friday, September 8th, 1939, to the late Floyd and Pinkie Roberts, embraced the joys of her early life on a farm, surrounded by her brothers and sisters. She spent her formative years there until her junior year of high school -  completing her senior year in Baltimore, Maryland.

In 1962, Mary Lee ventured to Brooklyn, New York, where she resided with her Aunt Carrie and Uncle James. For several years, she worked in the manufacturing industry alongside Aunt Carrie before pursuing her aspirations in healthcare. Mary became a Home Healthcare Attendant, dedicating over three decades to her career, retiring in 2009.

Mary united in Holy Matrimony with Willie Allen in 1964, and their union was blessed with two children, Melissa Yvette in 1965 and Reginald in 1967. After parting ways with Willie, Mary found companionship with Leon Howlett, a relationship that continued until her final days.

The majority of Mary's adult life was spent in Brooklyn, where she extended her caregiving to neighbors and the community, always ready to offer a helping hand or a comforting conversation. Her caregiving journey also reached her roots in Virginia, tending to her elderly parents until their passing. Mary's home was a welcoming haven for relatives traveling to New York.

Mary cherished spending quality time with her grandchildren, engaging in activities like cooking and solving crossword puzzles. She found pleasure in reading, especially her dream book, and indulged in watching her favorite daytime soap operas. As Alzheimer's advanced, Mary relocated to South Jersey to live with her daughter, Melissa, and be closer to her sister, Alpha. She was blessed with exemplary care from Lisa, Reggie, and Alpha.

On January 10th, 2024, at 6:00 a.m., Mary Lee Roberts Allen peacefully transitioned to her eternal home with the Lord. In addition to  her parents, she was predeceased by her brothers, Lloyd Roberts and Moses Banks, and her sister, Fannie Mayes.

Cherished memories of Mary will forever reside in the hearts of her two loving children, Melissa Yvette and Reggie, daughter-in-law, Bonnie; two handsome grandsons, Isaiah and Noah; treasured companion, Leo; sisters, Alpha and Beatrice (Ronald); brothers, Zeno (Zell) and Mark (Ruth); brother-in-law, John Mayes, aunt, Lizzie Mae, a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, friends, and her loving cat, Cooper.

Mary completed her earthly journey, and the angels in heaven now rejoice. "I can do all things in Christ who strengthens me." (Philippians 4:13)
