Life began for MAUDE BEATRICE HIGH TAYLOR STUKES on January 3, 1921 born to the late Horace Hartwell and Josephine Garner High in the Barley Community of Greensville County, Virginia. Maude received her education at the Hartwell High School, named after her paternal grandfather. She gained work experience by working on the family farm. Eventually, she went to work in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina as a domestic laborer. At an early age, Maude confessed faith in Christ and joined the Macedonia Baptist Church in Emporia, Virginia. She served faithfully in the Senior Choir, the Macedonia Women Chorus, Missionary Circle, Pastor Aide and the WIC Circle. Maude was united in Holy Matrimony to Fred Taylor. To the union; six children were born of which three preceded her in death: Maude Elizabeth, Robert Nathaniel and Thomas Lee Taylor. Maude legacy is cherished and remembered by one daughter, Carolyn Bernice (Randolph); two sons, Ernest Coleman and Jerry Lewis; sixteen grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren, ten great great-grandchildren; four sisters, Gracie, Matilda, Delma (Joe) and Rosa; three brothers, Hartwell, Eugene and Stephen (Delmarie)a host of nieces, nephews and friends
