Memories are treasures no one can steal. Death is the heartache nothing can heal.
Some may forget you now that you are gone, But we shall remember you no matter how long.
Maxine Banks Green, born on July 16, 1968, in Emporia, Virginia, to the late Rufus and Rena Banks, embraced her Christian faith early in life. She was baptized at Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church in her hometown. Maxine later married the love of her life, the late Michael Green.
Maxine pursued a career in hospitality until her health declined. Known for her warm and lasting first impressions, she was the life of any gathering and was cherished by many in her community. Her home, fondly known as ‘Big Max’s house,’ was a beloved gathering place. Maxine enjoyed cooking and cleaning, with her pasta salad being a favorite dish among family and friends.
On Friday, July 5, 2024, while under the care of Petersburg Health and Rehab in Petersburg, Virginia, Maxine answered God’s call, transitioning from earthly labor to eternal rest. She is now reunited with her loving parents, husband, sister Lisa Mae Banks, and her uncles Richard Hicks and aunt Mary Young.
Maxine’s memory will be forever cherished by her three sons, Dexter Banks, Michael Banks, and Markel Green, all of Emporia, Virginia; her sister Melissa Banks of Emporia, Virginia; her brother Rufus Banks, Jr. (Ethel) of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina; her sister-in-law Melina Green of Emporia, Virginia; her brothers-in-law, Donald Green and Arthur Green, Jr., both of Emporia, Virginia; her two grandchildren, Lauryn Banks and Jamier Walker, both of Richmond, Virginia; her aunt Hattie Vaughan (Larry) of Emporia, Virginia; her great-aunts, Pearline Rook, Argie Banks, Ollie Hicks, and Dorothy Hicks, all of Emporia, Virginia; her great-uncles, Howard Hicks, Hubert Hicks, Robert Hicks, and John Hicks, all of Emporia, Virginia, and Waverly Hicks (Emma) of Mesa, Arizona. She will also be fondly remembered by her special friend Fred of Emporia, Virginia, along with a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
