On Wednesday, August 6th, 2025, Michael Banks - lovingly called “Choc-Choc” by family and friends - peacefully entered eternal rest in the comfort of his home in Emporia, Virginia.
Michael was born on October 10th, 1991, to the late Michael and Maxine Green. He was the second of three children born to their union and grew up surrounded by love and close family ties.
He received his education in the Greensville County Public School System. At an early age, Michael confessed his faith in Jesus Christ and united in Christian fellowship with Jerusalem Baptist Church in Emporia, Virginia.
Michael will be remembered for his kind heart, loyalty and the unconditional love shown to family, friends, and his community. After the passing of his mother, Maxine, their home continued to be the cherished gathering place for family and friends- a reflection of his wann and welcoming spirit.
A devoted Philadelphia Eagles fan - Go Birds! - Michael loved game days and never missed an opportunity to “talk smack” about his team’s victories, especially to Dallas Cowboy fans. Beyond football, he always found time to check in with loved ones, near or far, through calls and texts just to see how they were doing.
Although Michael did not have children of his own, he deeply cherished his role as an uncle. He made sure his niece and nephew felt special never letting a Christmas or birthday pass without a gift - whether big or small - given with love.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Maxine Green; his maternal grandparents, Rena and Rufus Banks, Sr.~ his paternal grandparents, Arthur, Sr., and Joan Green; and one aunt, Lisa Banks.
He leaves to cherish his memory: two brothers, Dexter Banks of Emporia, Virginia, and Markel Green of the home; one nephew, Jamier Walker, and one niece, Lauryn Banks, both of Richmond, Virginia; two aunt, Melinda Green (Derrick) and Melissa Banks, both of Emporia, Virginia; three uncles, Rufus (Ethel) Banks of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, Donald (Norman) Green of Valentine, Virginia, and Arthur Green, Jr., of Emporia, Virginia; three great-aunts Hattie (Larry) Vaughan, Marie Lewis, and Barbara (Robert) Cain, all of Emporia, Virginia; brothers at-heart, Jermaine, Randy, and Jeffery Hicks, Renaldo Young, and Brian McCray; uncle-at-heart, Robert Young, Jr.; cousins, Melanie, Markeisha, and Cierra Green, Timothy, Cadarius, Krystal, and Quinton Banks, and Steaven and Stephon Clements; devoted friends, DaQuan Drake and Lorenzo Palmer; and a host of other aunt, uncles, cousins, and friends.
Michael’s life was a testament to love, connection, and generosity - a legacy that will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
