Michele Green-Wright was born on Tuesday, March 22, 1966 to Louise and the late George Green. In true Michele fashion, she was born flying high in a helicopter. And as we all know, she’s been flying ever since.
Michele joined Royal Baptist Church in Emporia, VA at an early age. She was an active member serving in various ministries throughout the church. Michele graduated from Greensville County High School in 1983. After graduation, she furthered her education at Norfolk State University in Norfolk, VA, where she graduated, in 1986 with a degree in nursing. She also received a Bachelor of Science in Organizational Management from St. Paul’s College in Lawrenceville, VA. She received her Master of Science in Education from Central Michigan University.
Upon graduating from Norfolk State University, she began her career at Georgetown University Hospital in the Orthopedic Unit. She continued her Nursing Career at George Washington University Hospital and later worked in various positions at INOVA Urgent Care and Children’s National Medical Center. Michele began her career as an educator at Applied Career Training as an Instructor of Medical Assistant and Medical Office Assistant curriculum. She continued her career in education, in positions with Greensville County High School, Southside Virginia Community College, J. Sargent Reynolds Community College and as the State Specialist for Health and Medical Sciences and Related Clusters at the Virginia Department of Education. She held numerous certifications.
Michele was well known in Emporia, Greensville County, and all across the state of VA. She had a heart of gold and whenever called upon to complete a task she never said “NO.” Her late grandfather, Russell Green, nicknamed her “Bumblebee” because she was always so busy participating in community activities. She was the resident nurse for family and friends. If there was ever a medical issue, call Michele. If there was ever a medical question, call Michele. If there was ever a program and you needed a speaker, call Michele. If there was ever a need for healthcare education, call Michele. If you needed a band-aid, call Michele.
Through the years Michele joined several organizations. She’s currently an active member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Chi Eta Phi Sorority, Inc., Georgia P. Kelly Elks Lodge Daughter, and The Order of the Eastern Stars.
Michele married her high school sweetheart James Wright Jr. on February 18, 1988. To this union, they had two beautiful daughters, Natasha and Brittany Wright and one grandson, James Russell Wright, who was the apple of his grandmother’s eye. There’s no one like JR!
She was preceded in death by her father, George Green, her brother Larry Green, six aunts, and two uncles. She leaves to cherish her legacy and memories her husband of 32 years, James Wright Jr, two daughters, Natasha and Brittany Wright of Emporia, VA, one grandson, James Russell Wright, her Mother Louise Green, two sisters, Judy Jackson (Arthur) of Aberdeen, MD and Melinda Green of Alexandria, VA, two aunts Mary Pinder (Ignatius) of Miami, FL and Mable Hedgepatch of Emporia, VA three uncles, Fred Green (Susie) of Richmond, VA Joseph Green (Louise) of Emporia, VA and Harold McCottry (Barbara Jean) of Kingstreet, SC. and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and children she called her own.
We will all miss her laugh, her smile and her rescuing us from whatever crisis we experience, but we know she’s resting and watching over us.
