We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body,
and to be present with the Lord.

Michelle Nichols, born on Friday, November 7th, 1969, in Southampton County, Virginia, peacefully transitioned to eternal rest on Monday, August 19th, 2024, at Henrico Doctors Hospital in Richmond, Virginia. She was 54 years old.
Michelle was the beloved daughter of the late James Webster Nichols and Ellen Nichols Suggs. She grew up in a loving family alongside her siblings and was a proud graduate of Greensville County High School. During her high school years from 1984 to 1987, Michelle’s passion for basketball shone brightly as she played for the Greensville County Girls Varsity Basketball Team. She often reminisced about teaching her nephews and neighborhood boys the art of basketball, showcasing her love for the game and her nurturing spirit.
Early in life, Michelle accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior and was baptized at Salem Baptist Church in Emporia, Virginia, where she actively participated in the youth choir. Later, she continued her spiritual journey with Saint Paul’s Baptist Church in Richmond, Virginia, deepening her faith and connection to her community.
Michelle possessed a remarkable talent for sales and dedicated many years to building a successful career in this field. She began her professional journey at Sears, distinguishing herself through exceptional sales of windows. Her expertise led her to roles at Yellow Pages and later Google, where she continued to excel in advertising sales. Most recently, Michelle found fulfillment working with JenCare Senior Medical Center, providing specialized care and delivering superior healthcare products to Medicareeligible seniors. Her commitment to excellence and genuine care for others left a lasting impact on colleagues and clients alike.
Known for her vibrant personality and zest for life, Michelle brought joy and warmth to every gathering. She was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan and loved spending quality time with her daughter, Cherelle, watching the Cooking Channel and experimenting with new recipes. Michelle was deeply engaged in politics, staying informed through daily viewings of CNN and other news channels. She encouraged those around her to understand political issues, get involved, and exercise their right to vote. Michelle also enjoyed hosting barbecues, bringing family and friends together over good food and great conversations.
Michelle leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories that will forever remain in the hearts of her loved ones. She is survived by her devoted daughter, Cherelle McFarland of North Chesterfield, Virginia; three brothers, Milton Maurice Nichols (Sharon) of Chester, Virginia, Mitchell L. Nichols (Bertina) of Chesterfield, Virginia, and Marcus Nichols of Richmond, Virginia; and her sister, Mona Lisa Nichols Stephens (Donnie) of Kinston, North Carolina.
She was a loving aunt to nine nephews: Keshawn Mason-Nichols (Ashanti), Antwan Nichols, Marquise Nichols (Taylor), Donnie “DK” Stephens Jr., Jalon Nichols, Mitchell “MJ” Nichols, Nicholas Stephens, Tony Stephens, and Jayden Nichols; and two nieces: Kaylor Nichols and Calicia Stith Hicks (Jeffery). Michelle also adored her great-nieces and nephews: Lilianna Mason-Nichols, Kaleb Mason-Nichols, Auri Nichols, and Layla Stephens. Additionally, she leaves behind a host of cousins, friends, and a special family friend, Ronnette Edmonds, who provided unwavering support and companionship.
Though our hearts are heavy with loss, we find solace in knowing that Michelle is at peace in Heaven, reunited with her parents and her brother, Martin V. Nichols. Her spirit and love live on through her cherished daughter, family, and all who were blessed to know her. Michelle’s joy for life, compassionate heart, and infectious laughter will be deeply missed but never forgotten. Her eternal light will continue to guide and inspire us all.
