On Saturday, February 20, 2016 Mildred Naomi Wells-Rice, 70, of 3178 Tryall Mill Road, Emporia, Virginia departed this life at VCU Medical Center, Richmond, Virginia. She was born to the late Clifford B. Wells Sr. and Martha A. Wells on January 29, 1946 in Greensville County, VA. She was fourth of eleven siblings to which one of her brothers preceded her in death: Clifford B. Wells Jr. Mildred, affectionately called by her middle name "Naomi," was educated in the Greensville County School system. She joined Zion Baptist Church at an early age and remained a dedicated member until her death. While living in Jersey City, she joined the Mount Calvary Missionary Baptist Church under Watch Care and was a member of the Senior Choir until she relocated to Virginia. She was also a faithful member of "The Zion Echoes" singing alto for over 20 years.
Mildred was employed by The New York Department of Social Services and Welfare as a Social Worker that would last for 25 years until her retirement. She met and married Samuel C. Hall and out of that union came her fourth and last daughter Tenda. She would later meet and marry Lenel Rice her loving and devoted husband, friend, and caregiver, until the Lord called her home to rest. Mildred was known to all with having a generous heart, big smile and laugh, fun loving and a "Mighty Left-hand!" But through it all she loved the Lord as was instilled in her by Mother and looked forward to Noonday Prayer every Wednesday with her siblings, cousin, and friends.
She leaves to cherish her memories: Husband Lenel Rice, four daughters, Norma J. Pinckney (Freddy) of Jersey City, NJ, Shawn Wells of Lorton, VA, Shellene Wells of Jersey City, NJ, Tenda M. Wells of Columbus, OH, one step-daughter, Yvette Rice-Steward of Chesapeake, VA; two brothers, Leon Wells (Ethel) of Richmond, VA and Ronnie Wells (Gloria) of Savannah, GA; seven sisters, Rose Washington (John), Theresa Gailard, Delores Ransom, Peggy Caepenter all of Jersey City, NJ, Carol J.
