Mr. Milton Cleveland Jones, age 87, peacefully departed this life on May 29th, 2026, at his home in Emporia, Virginia, surrounded by the love and presence of his family.
Milton was born on August 17th, 1938, in Sussex County, Virginia, to the late John Henry Jones and Anna Hall Jones. From an early age, he developed a strong foundation of faith, accepting Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and joining First Baptist Church in Stony Creek, Virginia. After relocating to Greensville County, he became a devoted and faithful member of Zion Baptist Church in Purdy, Virginia, where he worshiped faithfully until declining health limited his attendance.
Milton began his educational journey at Little Mill School in Sussex County and later earned his high school diploma in Greensville County, Virginia. Dedicated to lifelong learning and professional growth, he attended Southside Community College, where he received training in electrical and plumbing trades.
A man of remarkable determination and versatility, Milton built a career defined by hard work, service, and entrepreneurship. In 1959, he began his professional life as a barber in Petersburg, Virginia. Upon returning to Greensville County, he operated a successful barbershop from his home for ten years. He later worked at Bryant’s Barbershop and continued serving clients at Cain’s Barbershop on weekends until his retirement.
In addition to barbering, Milton pursued several other professional endeavors. He was employed by Georgia-Pacific and, after earning his Certified Electrical License, became Head Electrician at Days Inn. Never one to limit his ambitions, he also operated his own electrical business after regular work hours, earning the respect of many throughout the community for his skill, dependability, and work ethic.
Milton was widely admired for the wisdom he shared with family and friends. He consistently stressed the importance of education, the value of land ownership, and the discipline of living within one’s means. His guidance, practical knowledge, and steadfast example profoundly influenced the lives of those around him.
Above all, Milton was a devoted family man. He was a loving father, proud grandfather, and cherished great-grandfather who found immense joy in sharing his experiences, wisdom, and life lessons with future generations. He took great pride in watching his family grow and flourish, knowing that his values and legacy would live on through those he loved.
Milton was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 31 years, Dorothy Meade Epps Jones; his parents, John Henry and Anna Hall Jones; his twin brother, Dalton Jones, Sr.; brothers, Allen Jones, Sr. and John Washington Jones, Sr.; sisters, Caletha H. Embery, Mertie Mason, and Mae Bowie; and his beloved nephew, Chester Jones, whom he lovingly helped raise as his own.
He leaves to cherish his memory three devoted daughters: Christine (Bernard) Lewis, Sr. of Tampa, Florida; Rosetta Jones of Hopewell, Virginia; and Mozelle (Jerry) Rose, Sr. of Emporia, Virginia.
He also leaves a treasured legacy through his grandchildren: Tiffany Jones of Hopewell, Virginia; Whitney (Donn) Pearson of Gainesville, Virginia; Milton X. Jones of Hopewell, Virginia; B. Dexter (James) Lewis of Tampa, Florida; Briana (Jamison) Rose of Peachland, North Carolina; Keith Lewis of Tampa, Florida; and Jerry Rose, Jr. of Greensboro, North Carolina.
His memory will continue to live on through his seven beloved great-grandchildren: Zyreon Jones-Walker, Zakyha Jones-Walker, Milana Jones, Dariyah Coleman, Arthur Banks, Bomani Pearson, and Khai Brownlee.
He is also survived by a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends whose lives were enriched by his kindness, wisdom, and unwavering love.
Though he will be deeply missed, Milton’s enduring legacy of faith, hard work, integrity, and devotion to family will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know him.
